A member of the state police accident reconstruction team documents the scene on Route 4.

By late Friday afternoon, Androscoggin County Sheriff's
investigators were still trying to determine whether the death of Sharon Call, 65, was related to a crash on Route 4 that occurred hours before
her body was found.

At about 9:45 a.m., police went to Route 4, just south of Harlow Hill Road, where a car was reported to have crashed. When they arrived, police found that Brandon Pelletier, 19, of Turner, had skidded off Route 4 and into a grassy area.

Neither Pelletier nor his passenger were hurt when the 1995 Camaro went off the roadway.
Police said the car slid more than 100 yards, across the yard and driveway, before coming to rest deep into the grassy field.

Police spoke with the driver, and soon after cleared the area. It
appeared to be a routine crash and investigators were putting together
a basic accident report.

Around the same time, an elderly woman who lives near the crash site
reported she could not find a visiting relative.

Just after 11 a.m., family members called the Androscoggin County
Sheriff's Office to report they had found the missing woman dead in the tall grass, close to the area where Pelletier's car had gone
off the road.

It was Call.

Family members later told investigators that they had last
seen her walking to the mailbox. That was around the same time that
Pelletier crashed — narrowly missing the mailbox as he slid off the
road.

"Call's death and the initial crash appear to be related,"
Androscoggin County Detective Sgt. William Gagne wrote in a press
release, "but the incidents are still under investigation."

Maine State Police were called to the crash site to reconstruct the
car wreck. An autopsy was planned on Call's body and the district
attorney sent a representative to the scene of her death.

Gagne said Pelletier had been interviewed and was cooperating with
the investigation. It was unclear whether he realized he hit a person
when he crashed his Camaro.

Pelletier was driving north on Route 4 when he lost control of his car and drove off the east side of the roadway, police said.

Call lived with her husband on Barrell Shop Road in Greene.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Gagne at 784-7361 extension 214.

Bottom line, a woman died and a young kid was at the wheel. Could he have not known he hit her? I guess it's possible. But for her not to have been found during the investigation seems a bit absurd!

ojhuig's picture

There is a possible

There is a possible scenario. She could have seen him losing control and fallen trying to get out of his way. If she fell in that grass, He could have hit her and thought he was bouncing off a rock or something.

While he may not have seen

While he may not have seen the woman he surely would have heard the impact when the car struck her. It sounds like the initial officer to investigate dropped the ball big time. Surely that had to be damage on the car somewhere. Tsk Tsk to all parties involved on this one.

Pelchi is the same sweeheart

Pelchi is the same sweeheart who broke in someone's house a few months back. He is a thief, a liar and a drug abuser. Put him away for a long time or this will happen again. He is known for his reckless speeding and laughs about it. He is well known by law enforcement in this area. A drug test would clear up alot of questions.

I know who this kid is, and

I know who this kid is, and yeah that sounds like him thinking of himself and not everyone around him! This is very sad and unfortunate & if he did this I think he should go right to jail for a very long time. That poor lady, she was trying to help her relative out and look what happens a IRRESPONSIBLE & IMMATURE driver could not handle it! Take his license away and let him never get it back...

I think everyone forgets how

I think everyone forgets how hard it was raining yesterday. It's obviously no excuse for vehicular manslaughter, but I could see how the speed of the car, the sound/obstruction of the rain, and the panic of going off the road led to not knowing they had hit someone.

People will never take Rt.#4

People will never take Rt.#4 seriously, not even after all the horrible fatal accidents that have occurred there. If this kid claims he didn't see this woman, he should be ashamed of himself! She would have been out in plain view to him! There is no way he couldn't have seen her. Then to not even mention it when the police arrived? How horribly heartless! My thoughts and prayers to her family.
