AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci formally appointed Roy Gedat the new treasurer of Oxford County on Tuesday.
Gedat was nominated by Oxford County Democrats to replace Mary Ann Prue, who served as treasurer for 13 years but resigned due to her decision to move out of the county. Gedat was sworn in by Norway Town Clerk Shirley Boyce on Tuesday morning.
Gedat will serve the remainder of Prue's term, which runs to the end of the year. He has also announced that he intends to run for re-election in November.
After serving from 1985 to 2004 as executive director of the Child Health Center, Gedat became the executive director of the Maine Personal Assistance Services Association and was a national advocacy director for Direct Care Alliance Inc. He currently consults for the latter organization and is in the process of starting up his own home-care-service business.
Gedat graduated from Hofstra University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in political science and journalism, and also graduated from Boston University School of Social Work with a master's degree.

This is cheating to you winslowrk?
So, according to you, Mary Ann Prue moved out of the area intentionally so Roy Gedat could be appointed in the interim? Um, no! This is what happens when someone moves out of the county! The process is correct. Gees.
Cheating is when you have three republicans on the Oxford County Commission who in the middle of the game change the rules to make the County Treasurer position an appointed one, rather than an elected one, because they're lazy and controlling. They're cheating because they don't have a republican to run for Mary's vacant seat and want to control the position to get their way (appointing a republican buddy). Well, Roy has been running for a few months now and has been appointed to County Treasurer in the interim by the Governor, which is the normal course of events. It's how it works.
