PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The brother of the man serving a life sentence for the 1988 kidnapping and killing of a Maine girl says his brother was near death when he was found in his prison cell.
Don Dechaine says he doesn't know what caused the heart rate and blood pressure of Dennis Dechaine to plummet.
Fifty-two-year-old Dennis Dechaine is being treated at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Dennis Dechaine is serving a life sentence for the murder and rape of Sarah Cherry. He claims he's innocent and is seeking a new trial.
Don Dechaine tells the Portland Press Herald his brother suffered a similar, but less severe incident about 10 years ago.
Don Dechaine says he's planning to visit his brother in the hospital.
