State of Maine to charge fees at some parks

FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) — The state of Maine is planning to add admission booths at some parks and charge admission this summer.

The director of the state Bureau of Parks and Lands says he hopes the addition will raise between $110,000 and $120,000 a year, helping the bureau deal with a tight budget.

Director Will Harris tells the Portland Press Herald he's not happy about it, but it's probably the best choice available.

Some of the locations that will see booths include as Mackworth Island in Falmouth, Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth and Colonial Pemaquid in New Harbor.

The fees will take effect at different times at different locations.

Park Fees

Why not charge fees for these parks and Mackworth?  That surely is going to attract the out of staters like the other taxes and fees in the new reform bill are going to do.  Never mind that Mainers are here year round almost. For the life of me, I can not figure why the Democrats keep these idiots in office.   Just another reason to camp out state.

State Park Fees

Paying a nominal fee is fine. What's this fee really about? It would not pay for the diesel oil to power a truck for more than a few days hauling dirt on the TransCanada Industrial wind-turbine project working on the Kibby Mountain project. I guess the lesson is just to shut up and bend over.

How to lose money fast

They used the number from free entry and think that they will be the same if the charge.  Bet they will be 50%. Then they will hire a staff and manager for it and that will cost. Net result a new budget item to cover the loses that will compete for resources just to keep management and staff going.
