Actions speak louder than words

Lewiston continues to be fortunate to have Elaine Makas looking out for its best interests. Makas succeeded in preventing Casella Waste from dumping hundreds of tons of toxic waste into its landfill; sponsored successful state legislation to improve standards for the Androscoggin River; and won the bid to hold the Maine Democratic Party convention in Lewiston in May 2010 — an economic boon to area hotels, restaurants and shops.

As chairman of the Androscoggin County Safety Committee, she oversaw the purchase of two Tasers for the jail, thereby reducing the likelihood of injuries to jail personnel. In addition, her recommendations have reduced the number of Workers' Compensation claims overall.

At the County Commission meetings, I have seen her fight steadfastly for Lewiston and the county employees. It’s a tough job and now is not the time to bring in an untested individual for on-the-job training.

Remember: Actions speak louder than words.

Democraps in lewiston will

Democraps in lewiston will put the city in a favorable light? I guess you haven't been reading the news pately, democraps are on the cutting block - goodbye majority control in Augusta and washington...hello reasonable thinking people instead! Would that be the same democraps who put all the immigrants in lewiston? Come on, I bet not one delegate actually goes downtown for a visit or a meal!

And the last time the republicans

held their convention here was .......?  I am certain there will be some economic impact, but probably not a whole lot.  But it will put Lewiston in a favorable light for a little while.  What did you and your cronies do to put Lewiston in the news when you were on the council.  Oh yes, you fired the administrator because he hurt your feelings.  Enough said.

Wow, just a couple thoughts -

Wow, just a couple thoughts - that bill to clean up the Androscoggin...can you say watered down at the request of the paper mills and their unions - today the Androscoggin is still not fit to swim in or eat fish caught from, as the democraps in the legislature continue to bow to the unions at the paper mills, while they allow better standards on other rivers such as the Kennebec and Penobscot - why was our area left behind -thank your legislators! Casella? - that legislation also was written with a rather large hole - by Makas and company - in it there is a provision that states that if trash shipped in from out of state is parked in Maine for just one night - it then becomes Maine trash and can be disposed of in a Maine landfill. I can't beleive Makas would even use that as a banner example of her leadership. lastly, check the last few democratic conventions - most folks went home each night other than a few north and east of Bangor, and very little money was spent in the host community - remember democraps like to spend other peoples money, not their own!
