Josh Chessey, 7, foreground, of Auburn and the Merrill family of Auburn watch as heavy metal band Dead Season performs at Bull Moose in Lewiston on Saturday. The popular Maine band with roots in the Oxford Hills area played during the 3rd Annual Record Store Day, a worldwide celebration of independently owned retail stores and their customers. Dead Season has sold over 15,000 CDs in Maine and that is because of Bull Moose's continued support of local music, said band vocalist Ian Truman of South Paris. The Merrills, from left, are Camryn, 2, his father Eric and Domonic, 5, lower right corner.

it's kind of the same

This is funny to me.  Musicians of the 60s freaked out the old folks with their strange music and scary appearance.  Now Dead Season is doing the same thing.  Both generations wished the the old folks wouldn't judge them by their appearance but by what they had to say.

Sure, a bunch of big hairy guys like Dead Season can be intimidating, and the music is loud, but it's not as loud as Hendrix.  They aren't as hairy as Zappa and The Mothers of Invention.

Back in the day, the old folks missed the positive peace & love stuff becuase they thought it was all long hair, drugs and revolution. Now you can miss all the pro-family, stay sober, and work hard messages in Dead Season.

Three cheers to Bull Moose for giving Dead Season a place to play where people could take their kids.

I am fine with people

I am fine with people complaing about the music I listen to. I've been dealing with that my whole. My paresnt complained non-stop about my music choices growing up. I turned out fine. My point here is do not attack us as people and parents because we listen to heavy metal. Do not say we have a lack of eduation because of the music we choose to listen to. That is my issue.

Role Model

I actually think all of the members are great models and I have no probelm with my children looking up to them. Why wouldn't I? You can hear and feel the core values in their music. Singing about the love for their families, the lose of their mother and their father that the refer to as a hero. Just because their style of music is heavy do not assume they are not decent people. Much better than the crap on the radio that is overplayed. Bands like Nickelback, Theory of Deadman, etc, etc. Personally I think the music of the 60's is total crap and in no way are those musicians role models to me or my children, but to each his own and in no way would I accuse you of having a lack of education for listening to that music and letting your children listen to it.

I actually do not Care for

I actually do not Care for the Music 'Dead Season ' performs' But they do desevre every right to perfom and I understand that they have developed a 'Solid'Fan Base' which must make them feel fortunate' also it is Great that'Bull Moose' provides them with a Venue to perform and promote their Music and provide thier fans with a chance to Buy their 'CD"s ..

I Just think this is not the kind of environment that one wants to bring a 'Young Child' to, that is unless 'Dead Season' is the only choice the 'Parents' have for picking out a 'Role Model'

Nice use of Language by 'Slightly Twizted'

Now To 'Billy Dumont'

I have indeed listened to their Lyrics and am aware of their Healthy Lifestyle and the Ideals that they espouse. that is very Positive and I apologize if I offended you and your Band.

Having had the 'Luxury of growing up during the 60's and had the opportunity to see some of the 'Greatest Musical Acts' live in Concert' I feel very fortunate. Perhaps seeing 'Dead Season' for some is a close as they will come to see their idea of 'Perfection'

Try and ignore

the right wing wackos.  They're all about personal responsibility as long as you see things their way.  Personally I don't care for this music, but obviously you and your son do.  And you spend some good quality time with them.  Better that then letting a priest or scout leader having their way with them.

Really?

Lack of education? It is BREAK DOWN not BRAKE DOWN! Joshua is my son. Our whole family supports Dead Season as amazing song writers, musicians and great local people. There lyrics and songs have so much meaning. Their love for their family and each other comes out in their music. The lead singer is a school teacher. I can't believe you would come on here and talk like that about people you don't even know. My 7 year old son is a creative smart child that is aspiring to be a guitar player. I feel bad for your children, it's obvious they will not be able to have minds of their own.

Couldn't Mr Merril thought of

Couldn't Mr Merril thought of a more Enlightning way to entertain his Children' But then again here is an example of the Complete Brake down of Sensible behavior and lack of Culture as well as education

You might be closed minded?

Is is it this style of music that offends you rbegin. Have you ever listened to the lyrics of DEAD SEASON? Their lyrics are all about enlightenment, and sensible behavior. Live music performed in general is educational and DEAD SEASON are a great example of four people playing music together while respecting each others musical space. All while keeping in time with each other. Great dynamics and  all drug and alcohol free. Not to many bands can commit to that.  I watched the Merril children there and they were very entertained, enlightened, inspired, and cultured while DEADSEASON were performing. So the only "Complete Breakdown" to me would be the closed mindedness of people like your self. ................Don't knock it until you've rocked it.

                                                                                                                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                  Billy Dumont

Camryn and Domonic are my

Camryn and Domonic are my children and they love Dead Season since they have been listening to their music all their lives. Thank you Billy for pointing out that Dead Season's music is enlightening and inspiring. They do not sing about doing drugs and partying like a rock star but rather they encourage you to reach for the stars and making your dreams come true, they sing about their mother who passed away from cancer, they sing about the soliders that are fighting for this country, they sing about the homeless they encountered in miami, they sing about the respect they hold for their father. How is this music in anyway disrespectful or inappropriate for children? These 4 gentlemen are living proof that just because you are from little ol' Maine you can still inspire the uninspired!
