Democrats target TV station over labor dispute

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The five Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls in Maine have pledged to withhold their advertising from a Portland TV station involved in a labor dispute.

Matthew Beck from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers tells the Kennebec Journal that 40 union engineers and technicians at WGME-TV have been working since February without a contract.

The union-led boycott applies to five candidates for governor — Pat McGowan, Libby Mitchell, John Richardson, Steve Rowe and Rosa Scarcelli, as well as organizations that support them.

WGME-TV News Director Robb Atkinson says none of the candidates contacted the station to get its side of the story. He told WGAN news radio that the candidates' actions will hurt both the station and its employees.

Union Puke

Tron-  You are a poster child to justify a women's right to abort a fetus!  I am so sorry that you can't find out who your father is!  Hardly any of you Democrats know this fact!  You need to quit sucking on all those lemons and join civilization.

Twould be interesting to know

Twould be interesting to know just exactly what they consider a "decent wage." Somehow I suspect it would be a whole lot higher than the average Joe or Jane. I haven't seen a union yet that was interested in anything much other than putting money in the union leaders pockets.. and believe me, those union leaders could be counted among the "elite wealthy," without any hesitation.

skidaddle, you're an idiot

While the relationship may be private, the company is making billions using the PUBLIC airwaves.  That means we need to be certain the company treats its workers fairly, which obviously they are not.

Thank god our federal

Thank god our federal government does not pander to the unions...(snicker). Unions, greenies and socialists unite under Obama...you like public housing, public healthcare, public transportation, public welfare and public education? How do unfunded mandates and higher taxes sound? Shame for the candidates to be influencing a PRIVATE economic relationship with PUBLIC money.

I'm also working without a contract, big pension and numerous perks.

REALLY

That is what the last administration gave us,Bush and Cheney.

Republicans are now fighting for Wall Street.

What side of the story is missing?

The employees still work despite the fact that the station refuses to negotiate in good faith.  The station is making billions and refuses to provide a decent wage.  There is no other side.  That the republicans still run advertisements on the station show just how out of touch they are with common workers.  Republicans just support the elite wealthy right wing wacko station owners.  Everyone should take notice that the republicans favor an out of state company over local workers.  They should hang their heads in shame.
