Positive identification

I am a retired Navy chief with 20 years' service to my country; five tours in Vietnam. I have a retired ID card; have had a Maine driver's license since 1950.

I went to renew that license in March and was asked for my birth certificate. I offered my ID, which is issued by the federal government as proof of being a U.S. citizen. It was not good enough. The birth certificate was required. I went home and got the copy of my birth certificate that I used to get married in Japan in 1963. That wasn't good enough for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

I went back home and got the original certificate.

It took almost half a day to renew my driver's license, and the president still has not shown his.

Looks like it is easier to run for president of the United States than it is to get a driver's license renewed in this overtaxed state.

Editor's note: According to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles,  effective Nov. 15, 2008, to obtain or renew a driver's license or non-driver identification card, you must provide valid documentary evidence of legal presence in the United States. That proof includes a certified birth certificate, passport, certificate of naturalization or certificate of U.S. citizenship, among other things. For more information, to go www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/licenses/legalpresence.htm

veritas: It's becoming

veritas: It's becoming apparent why you don't sign your work here (though you should)

I used to have my real name on the page that comes up when you click on my forum name.  I deleted it when I had had enough of you morons  pestering me on the phone.

It has been abundantly apparent for months or longer that you - and xyz, tron, and a few others - should not be allowed internet access there on the drooling ward at the asylum.

Stupid is as Stupid Does

So much for George Bush's grades.

Do you think he's still running around his desk looking for WMD's???

RONALD RIML's picture

You want cheese with that Whine??

candiceanne writes:

"Many question whether Barak Obama is an American Citizen by birth and eligible to hold the office and have demanded proof via his providing a certified copy of his birth certificate."

And many of us questioned George W. Bush's sanity - though luckily for you he was never required to produce a certificate of mental competency.

But that's besides the question.

You neglect to mention that several federal lawsuits have been filed by various wing-nuts expressing just the same sentiments you are:  "Where's his Birth Certificate!!??"

The State of Hawaii, as issuing authority, has stated it exists.

You don't want to believe.  Don't believe it.  None of the lawsuits have prevailed.

Would it make you happy if he unzipped his "Obama" suit - stepped out in the persona of Klaatu, and warns the people of Earth that if we threaten to extend Socialism into space, then the robots of Conservative Republicanism will destroy Earth, adding that "The decision rests with you."

He then enters the spaceship and departs.

(My thanks to Wikipedia and "The Day the Earth Stood Still")

veritas and xyz are walking,

veritas and xyz are walking, talking examples of what Churchill meant when he observed that the navy was nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash.  They had too much of the first, not enough of the last, and still indulge in the other when they get together to reminisce about the good old days.

RONALD RIML's picture

frostproof - At least get your Navies 'Straight'

It's becoming apparent why you don't sign your work here (though you should)

Churchill was obviously speaking of British Royal Navy traditions - of which, as First Lord of the Admiralty, he was qualified to do so of when he mentioned "Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash"

So do tell us of your service days (and nights) experience.....

Chief, Don't Listen to the Marines...

For advice about 'Birth Certificates'

They're not exactly "Subject Matter Experts" in this field - something to do with their mother and father's dual role as their their aunt and uncle........  So this really wasn't something they wanted documented.

But to get back to the Retired Military ID's use as a proof of Citizenship...

Of what Country?

When I was in the Chief's Mess of the Josephus Daniels we had a Master Chief from Newfoundland who was still a Canadian citizen, and a Filipino CPO who was not a U.S. citizen.

Don't you remember the Steward's rating way back when - SD?  No Whites allowed.  All Filipinos, Blacks, or Hispanics.

- Now get me reminiscing about when cruisers had wooden decks and 8" guns.....

The old Senior Chief.....

No matter

We mexicans laugh at the democrat goverment for making it so easy for us to become the second highest source of income for Mexico.  New license rules just cause another business of printing a new form in Lawence, MA.

RONALD RIML's picture

Mexico was kind enough

To sell us under-age servicemen beer and tequila while goody-two shoes San Diego was too hypocritical to let us drink before we deployed to 'Nam.

Illegal aliens with driver's

Illegal aliens with driver's licenses is o.k. with you?

RONALD RIML's picture

Mucho better than illegal

Mucho better than illegal aliens without drivers' licenses.

Though they tend not to get insurance as they have very little - if any - property interest to protect, and they figure if you need to protect your own property - then you can go out and buy own freakin' insurance, Man!!

(Nothing personal, Amigo - it's a business decision)

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

I believe he was referring to

I believe he was referring to oBAMa never having produced HIS birth certificate; not his driver's license.

RONALD RIML's picture

Obama didn't produce his 'Birth Certificate?'

Not to the unwashed masses, but obviously to the Gatekeepers.

But why extinguish that spark of hope for the 'Flat-Earth Society'......

Alternate proof of legal presence

Mr. Thomas, if you had presented your DD-214 instead of your military retired ID, you would not have been denied.  And pay no attention to xyz; he's approaching the same "troll" status as tron and SSDD.

Where is old Tron on this

Where is old Tron on this one?.

Well xyz, quess your not as

Well xyz, quess your not as smart as you try and make yourself out to be. Sailors called Marines "sea going bellhops" and Marines called Sailors "squids". You  must have served in another country's marines or not at all.

"Anyone dumb enough to call a Marine "seagoing bellhop" or "jarhead" risked a broken nose or worse."

"its a navy term for a marine on a ship"

One more thing xyz, the Marines are a department within the Navy.

RONALD RIML's picture

Marine Corp Emblem

Look at it closely.

It's a Sea-gull sitting on top of the World with an Anchor up it's Ass yelling "Go, Navy, Go!!"

You need to stop spiking your

You need to stop spiking your Kool-Aide with gunpowder.

RONALD RIML's picture

I was going to join the Marines

but then they found out my parents were married.

We had some on our ship to protect the Officers from us.....  Or to play "Red Line"

Man, I knew you'd get in on

Man, I knew you'd get in on this one. Good shot

Bellhops???

Hey Jughead...excuse please, Jarhead!  You were the seagoing bellhops.  Who was it that held the hatches open for our officers.  Sure wasn't any "white hats" on my ships?  How many sailors did you see with napkins on their knees like you grunts did?  You missed something in Parris Island unless you went through boot camp in the back yard of Baldacci's house.
