State investigators remained at 225 East Hebron Road in Turner late Saturday afternoon after Jane Tetreault, 38, was found dead of a gunshot wound early Saturday morning. Her husband, Brian Nichols, was taken into custody.

Tetreault's husband, Brian Nichols, 45, was immediately questioned, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

"He was taken into custody in his vehicle a short distance from his house," McCausland said.

Nichols was charged with one count of Class A murder later in the day and was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail without bail, according to an official there.

The 911 call came in around 3:30 a.m. Androscoggin County sheriff's deputies found Tetreault's body, McCausland said in a press release. One of the couple's sons, a 17-year-old, was home at the time.

On Saturday afternoon, a white State Police Criminal Investigation Division van sat in the driveway at 225 East Hebron Road with the engine running. Police wearing blue rubber gloves made trips in and out of the house and photographed the exterior. At about 3:15 p.m., three men loaded a stretcher with what appeared to be a body into the back of a black Chevy Suburban.

The brown ranch with a neat, landscaped yard and a swing set out back is located in a rural area. Neighbors said they didn't know the family well.

Tetreault and Nichols both worked at the Lewiston franchise of Service Master cleaners, McCausland said. A man identifying himself as Tetreault's father answered the phone at the business late Saturday afternoon and said he was there with investigators.

The couple married in 2003 with sons Travis and Tyson as ring bearers, according to a wedding announcement in the Sun Journal archives. Tetreault was a Lewiston High School graduate in the Class of 1990.

Police planned to continue their investigation into Sunday when an autopsy was also scheduled.

Our deepest condolences go

Our deepest condolences go out to Jane, her boys, and her family in this time of loss. This was a very sad and tragic thing that happened, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To those of you who like to judge people and think you know the whole story and what happened, back off because you have no idea especially if you didn't know these people. Mind your own business.

sad day

This is a sad and tragic event for the families, friends and co-workers of those involved. I offer my deepest sympathy to Jane's family.

At the same time, I also find it sad that some moron (beth13) thinks that this is the time or place to try and make money. Unbelieveable! I hope that no one clicks her link. You're disgusting Beth.

For men that want total

For men that want total control over a woman including keeping her a prisoner, divorce is not an option.  Domestic violence is alive and well in Maine.

When will this ever end?

I've asked the same question and nobody knows the answer...getting a divorce is so much easier but then you have to lose precious money if you need to split everything in half.  Now he can rot in hell and I hope he gets his just reward.  The children will be suffering now with the loss of a mother on "Mothers Day" of all times...what is it with these men???
