Man remains critical after truck accident

OXFORD — An Oxford remained in critical condition at a Portland hospital on Friday, two days after he was struck by a dump truck on Webber Brook Road.

Trooper Kyle Tilsley of the Maine State Police said he was called to assist the Oxford Police Department at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday due to the seriousness of the injuries to J.J. Humphrey, 26, of 221 Webber Brook Road. Humphrey was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland from Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

Tilsley said the accident occurred as Humphrey was walking north along the northbound lane of the road, while Steven McNally, 48, of 142 Parsons Drive in Norway was driving a 1987 Ford four-axle dump truck in the southbound lane. McNally owns SAS Excavation in Norway and Steve's Auto on Lower Main Street, also in Norway, police said.

Tilsley said Humphrey was hit after crossing into the southbound lane.
"For reasons that are still unknown to me for sure, he ended up in the path of the dump truck," he said.

Tilsley said no charges will be filed in the accident. Webber Brook Road was shut down for about three hours while emergency workers responded to the scene.
