SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Former candidates for Maine's Democratic gubernatorial nomination are getting behind party nominee Libby Mitchell.
The former candidates got on stage with Mitchell Wednesday in South Portland to show support for her.
The unity event came hours after the losing Maine Republican candidates from last week's primary turned out for a unity event for gubernatorial nominee Paul LePage in Waterville.
Those events and others show that the campaign for governor and Maine legislative seats is moving into gear barely a week after the primaries.
On Tuesday night, author Stephen King pledged his support for Mitchell as he attended a Democratic Party fundraiser in Boston.
Three independents have also earned spots on the November ballot.

Since you've mentioned Richardson
How's that case coming along with the Attorney General's office? When will the names of those volunteers which broke the law get released?

Remember in November how Libby Mitchell was a strong supporter of pushing 102 new and/or higher taxes on Mainers with Question 1 (which was defeated, thank God). We must also remember that Libby Mitchell is part of the Exteme Far-Left establishment that has created our state's current economic fiasco and she represents the 'status quo' approach. We need a strong fiscal conservative running our state, but Libby will deserve a big "thank you" for her past service as she's walking out of Maine politics for good. Libby, it's time for you to retire.

have an idea, much less a great one. We're all still waiting. All you do is denigrate people, then cry that I'm picking on you. Well, for once, this time you're right. Grow up!

tron, i'm guessing you feel that calling someone a "teabagger", "right wing wacko", insinuating an individual is gay are all uplifting.

Hey, that gives me a great idea, lets pass a law that says everytime democrats in Maine want to increase taxes they have to hold a spaghetti supper instead for their craving of cash, instead of simply robbing those who WORK!!

a supper on the spur of the moment just to mimic the republican gala held in front of the Waterville city hall. Imagine the ingenuity of the democrats, organizing a spaghetti supper and new conference just hours after the republican event.

United...in raising taxes. United in... increasing entitlements. United in... running on nothing but vitriole for the GOP. United in... having no plan. United in... throwing money at problems instead of solutions.

File this one under "hey guys come to a press conference so we can show we're just like those Republicans".....not exactly an originla idea to hold a press conference only done to show you're the same and probably just a copycat...frankly seeing ppics of both conferences the facial expressions tell me they are either thrilled they might get a job in the new administration, or concerned without a government gravy train (democrats) they might actually have to find a real job...wonder when the last time Libby actually worked for a living was in the private sector?

These shows of unity mean nothing to me. I don't vote for the party. I vote for the candidate. Plus, I am personally affronted that the MAINE Democratic Party is holding a fundraiser in Boston and spending money outside the State of Maine when our businesses need the business.

Are you including Richardson as one of the "qualified"?...the problem is Mitchell is a career politician. Her leadership is based on which way the wind is currently blowing.

The difference between the Democrats running for office and the group of Republicans is that the Democrats were qualified, along with one or two of the Republicans ... none of whom are named "LePage."
