Obama capitulated to Muslims

The recent TV broadcast where President Obama goes to the defense of building a mosque at ground zero, citing the Constitution, reminded me of a scene from "The Godfather" where a congressman or senator, I forget which, ticked off the Godfather, was abducted and then subjected to convincing atrocities.

Next scene, the contrite representative, at a hearing investigating Mafia influences, rises to defend his friends, vilifying the hearing.

In my opinion, the White House TV broadcast, attended by many Muslims and broadcast throughout the Muslim world, was just such an appeasement, a capitulation.

Teddy Roosevelt was right. When dealing with our enemies, "speak softly and carry a big stick."

It is time to use the stick.

Alright, I wasn't going to do it....but I must. This editorial really got the libs crawling out from under the carpet. Moths to the flame.
First of all, of course it's Constitutional! Do they have a Constitutional right to buy the property and build a place of worship? Yup. Should they have chosen that site? Nope.
The people of New York can choose to keep big box stores away, they should be able to choose to keep this community center away as well. The Imam who wants to build has a similar center 14 blocks away. Why does he need this one?? Only one reason, to cause trouble. He's trying to pour lemon juice on a fresh wound, and if you can't see that, you have no sense.

Not Lemon Juice

This is not lemon juice just pretty typical conserva-commie racist tactics from a mother who should not have raised her children to listen to Prussian Blue. As for looking to cause trouble there were Muslims that day who had lost loved family members; so I can see why this is a sense of closure for them. I love how a conserva-commie loves bringing in the old Russian pogrom debating techniques. You are a real mench for a conserva-commie.

Get your facts right

It's not at Ground Zero, it's in Lower Manhattan a couple of blocks away. It does not stand between Ground Zero and any subway or other transportation, so you'd have to go out of your way to be offended by it. And it isn't even a mosque! It's a cultural center that happens to have a prayer room. By the way, did you know that the spot where the plant hit the pentagon is now a chapel where Muslims are allowed to pray every day? Stop this fear mongering and discrimination. Honor peaceful Muslims as you demand they honor you.

The Mosque IS at ground zero

The building that stood at the site of the proposed mosque was actually hit by the landing gear of one of the planes. The property is for sale at 25% of it's pre 9/11 value. How is that NOT ground zero? Muslims destroyed the property, purchase the land, and build a "cooperation" and "tolerance" center (MOSQUE) and we are somehow the hateful ones.

verified

Muslims

You state Muslims as if it encompasses every Muslim in the general area of religious philosophy this is more racist rhetoric from the Conservatives. When you deny the rights of worship you deny tolerance and cooperation; this is a closure for Muslims who had lost family members I can understand why they sought to build two blocks away. In being hateful you embrace the rhetoric of all Muslims being the same even if they did lose loved ones. Congratulations if this is American tolerance; move to China and join the Government sponsored Church.

Republican Party At the Extreme Margin of Society

I'm really glad that Republicans will reap what they sow eventually. They have enraged latinos by demonizing them while giving the businesses that employ them a pass. They have proven themselves to be completely incapable of bipartisanship, relying on skewed decisions by far right Republican appointees on the Supreme Court to open the flood gates to corporate influence on elections at every level. They have committed intellectual deceit on a near daily basis with Fox "Republican" News serving as nothing more than the propaganda wing of the Republican party, while claiming to be "fair and balanced." Now, they have enraged Muslims in a gambit to further polarize the electorate because that's pretty much the only way the Republicans get elected. So they might gain in the short term to the Midterms, but in the long run they may have marginalized their "party" to the extreme fringe right and thus, place it in no real position of "power" for decades to come. No one does extreme like Republicans.

Smiting? Ya we have a lot of those in our book too,

that doesn't mean all Christians are going to start doing it.
1 Samuel 23: Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and SMITE these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and SMITE the Philistines, and save Keilah. Numbers 25:17 Vex the Midianites, and SMITE them: Jeremiah 21:6 And I will SMITE the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.
Ah, but the most important one that republicans are ignoring in their race to out their "enemies" including anyone that may utter a liberal thought? Deuteronomy 19:11 But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and SMITE him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities: 12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Anyone can cherry pick a religious book. Want scary? Done. Want joy? Done. Want to feel self righteous without feeling guilty about your own sin? Done. Being a Selective Christian won't get you into heaven and being a Muslim doesn't automatically send you to hell.

Too damned right!

Too damned right! Unfortunately, Islam is a religion based on conversion by the sword, although there is some provision for allowing non-Muslims to live in peace in Islamic countries. However, they must agree to abide by some very strict laws, laws that discriminate against non-Muslims. And, for all you libs out there that start throwing the Crusades in our faces in an attempt to show Christianity is a religion bent on conversion by the sword, please remember that was long after Christianity was taken over by, essentially, bureaucrats (sp?). There are actual passages in the Koran that spell out the need for jihad against non-Muslims. There are no such passages in the New Testament.

seekingthetruth's picture

To Stacey W and Veritas

Both of you used Old Testament scripture to argue against Christians and Republicans. Let me clear this up for you. Christians do not live under Old Testament Law, they live under the Grace of Jesus which was given to us in the New Testament. So, unless you are a Jew living before the Crucifixion of Christ, the Old Testament Laws doesn't apply to you or me. And it's silly and shows your lack of Bible knowledge when you use Torah Law to argue against Christians.

Also, Stacey W. you wrote " being a Muslim doesn't automatically send you to hell."

Actually the Bible says that anyone that doesn't follow Jesus is going to hell. Everybody, including Muslims that reject Christ will be judged and sent to hell.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6"

I'd also like to point out something to you. I am not a Christian because I am a good person. I am a Christian because I am a bad person and asked for forgiveness through the Grace of Christ. You guys seem to think that Christians are good people....no, we are bad people just like everyone else, but we are FORGIVEN. Now, the Bible does command us bad people to do good things when the opportunity arises. But even after doing good things, we are still bad people. So, your arguments trying to make Christians out as bad people are senseless.

We are simply bad people that have been forgiven.

As far as the mosque goes. It's a constitutional matter, not a Biblical one. The Bible nowhere supports the building of mosques, but the Constitution does. This is not a religious matter at all, leave religion out of it. It is simply Constitutional law versus sensibilities. The Muslims have a right to build wherever they want to, but this spot may not be a good idea because of the sensibilities of the families of the victims. A compromise should be reached to give the Muslims their mosque while showing respect for these families.

Jesus

I agree with you considering Christians love using the Old Testament as a way of keeping violence positive and charity negative let us consider this gem from the epistle of James.

2: 1-4
"My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?"

seekingthetruth's picture

Joe? Do you understand this scripture?

It's saying that a person does not have the faith of Jesus if they are a respector of persons. It gives the example of a rich man being treated like a king, and a poor man being treated like a a servant. And if we are partial (predjudiced) within ourselves then we are judges of evil thoughts.

It says to treat everyone equal and not to be prejudiced, and if we are prejudiced then we don't have the faith of Jesus.

I don't understand why you would have a problem with that scripture.

Defended

I defended myself and have done so in the past unlike Conservatives the difference are that Republicans see through their own mistakes and apologize. As much as I liked Reagan however the new age Christian animosity and Religious Right has been the framework for several atrocious against none Christians. Even in that it can stem from and be directed toward Christians as well; as a Christian I questioned my faith due to the Religious Right in events such as this. There were whispers in High School and directed attacks by teammates on my own football team that I was indeed a closet Muslim and during Freshman year that several students were suspected of being closet Jews. No wonder why I studied Taoism and Talmud just to finally see the real "light" of a loving Savior in Jesus Christ. Which is apart from political motivations such as the one now facing New York. I agree with John Ashcroft whether or not we choose to take it; this is a symbol of closure for a majority of New York Muslims who had lost loved ones. Just as the icons of a Baptist Church, Jewish Synagogue, Mormon Temple, and Catholic Cathedral are points of closure for New York first responders. PS - read the Constitution, assuming you know what it is. It makes perfectly clear the freedom with which Muslims can build a community center.

seekingthetruth's picture

Stupidity?

Why can't you understand that nobody is saying that a mosque can't be built at ground zero. Nobody is denying the constitutional right of the Muslims to build it wherever they wish. BUT, what people are saying that even though it's legal, it may not be a good idea since it does insult the sensibilities of the people that lost friends and loved ones in the attack.

The fact that the state has offered the Muslims land elsewhere in the city to build it, and the fact that they refuse, leads one to think that maybe there is an ulterior motive for them to put it at 51 Park. Like a "Victory Mosque"

Anyway, noone is suggesting that we ignore the Muslims right to build it at 51 Park, but it would be better if they didn't.

Two Blocks

It is still two blocks away from Ground Zero imagine how the Muslim families who lost members during 9/11 now feel in a bitter and cold unrealistic American society dominated by Conservatives lacking the true nature of being understanding to others. While, they process xenophobic relations to others this is bitterly ugly. The "victory Mosque" is a racist form of creating an idealistic enemy to indulge and whet you're own appetite. As a Mosque it would represent a better understanding and more equal opportunity for Muslims who had lost family members to express their grief from losing loved ones. Call that a "victory Mosque" considering there were large numbers of Muslims who had lost their lives as well. How comforting would it be for closure if you're son or daughter had died and as a professed Muslim you were not allowed to have closure and security at the place where they had lost their lives.
