According to a homosexual Web site, California homosexuals are calling Maine, beginning in Oxford County which is known to be one of the more conservative counties in Maine. According to the article, a California homosexual organization called
Marriage Equality Silicon Valley and the Santa Clara County chapter of
the Courage Campaign have organized a phone call campaign to Maine. The
stated goal is to call registered voters, ask them about same-sex
marriage, and rate their support for further targeted action from the
No on 1/Protect Maine Equality.
The tricky point here is that the callers do not identify themselves
as being from out of state and from a homosexual organization.
I
feel that it is important the people receiving calls on the issue of homosexual marriage be forewarned that the homosexual movement is
pulling out all the stops to influence the voters of Maine to vote to
keep the gay marriage law intact. Both sides are active in their attempt to persuade voters toward their point of view.
With enough signatures collected this summer, voters will have a chance to express their opinion on homosexual marriage by voting in November. Many believe that legalizing homosexual marriage is bad for the state, for families, and especially for children. It is important that people know all the facts before entering the voting booth this November.

I do believe that the mouth piece of the CCL has formed a power move to lay low most of the right wing hypocritical nonsense that they spew forth has been used to sway the Conservative vote and always wants to be tied to the group. Churches bend over backwards to have their effective growth in their churches. Remember, many of them want the same old standard which the SBC provides to make it a growing political body and uses every deceitful means as to do so. When that fails they grow angry and when a more moderate and or liberal voice forms they email addresses out, donations to equality charities, and the money given to volunteer organizations to work with the public causing a hatred mongering session toward others.
That has been some of the aims of the group which has promoted so many actions and brought to call upon so many to join in favor of belonging that it could be comparable to Hitler-esque fashionable trends as work. Political sway means nothing unless they control the total body politic of the centralized establishment. On other issues we may or may not get along but inciting hatred such as printing a supposed spell cast on another member and using that to promote hatred is a Nazi born tactic.

I find it odd that strangers have the right to decide personal issues, such as marriage, in the life of other citizens. I also find it odd that legislature has a control on that as well. So many people stand on religious views in saying that same sex marriage should not be allowed, but if one believes in their religion or the teachings of Jesus Christ then they should not judge another person. Christ taught love, acceptance and forgiveness. If you go by the Constitution in denying that right of same sex marriage then the Constitution is failing to protect those individuals. If it fails to protect one person then it fails to protect all. If the argument is made that the Constitution forbids it on grounds of religious views then we should all take a strong look at that as well. Do we really want our government meddling in our religious affairs? Maybe people should ask what harm is it doing to allow same sex marriage? It does not affect me. It should not be said that it costs this much or costs that much, because if that is the case then young girls shouldn't be allowed to bear children that have to be supported on welfare, certain classes of people shouldn't be allowed in to certain colleges, or individuals do not have the right to pursue their dreams. The preamble to the Constitution reads "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." If two people of the same sex wish to marry then so be it. Do these people not deserve the same rights of protection under the laws as those of opposite sex marriage? I, for one, think they do. We all have a right to pursue our personal fulfillment. A scream of anguish would be heard around the world if we were not allowed to hold certain jobs, pursue a higher education, or marry across racial or religious boundaries, we would yell discrimination from the roof tops until heard. If one right can be taken away from an individual then other rights can be taken away as well, and that is what should be guarded against at all costs. Fighting for that equality should be a priority, the key word being equality. For those wishing to attack my stance, I am not gay, I do not have family that is gay, I am not on welfare, nor am I uneducated. I just believe that ALL people have the right to be protected under the law.

Typical of me, I'm a day late. Having read this "opinion" I had a strange feeling of familiarty. Didn't really think much of it at first then did a quick research. Has the Christian Civic League, AKA Maine's Family Policy Council, AKA Focus on Family (all names that seem to be misnomers) finally put a muzzle on their golden boy Michael Heath and dub Dallas Henry as their new mouthpiece? I thought it was interesting that the only word I'd heard from Michael Heath was a letter to the editor in the PPH, the only "major" city paper that does not allow feedback on LTTEs. And then this letter shows up, very reminiscent to the same arguments used in the 2005 veto on the antidiscrimination law.

Why are there so many arguments about this? Everyone need someone to love and or be with. It's nobodys bussniess who it is, as far as the word marriage is concerned, straight heterosexual people do more damage to the instatitution of marrage than anyone else. Why shouldn't a same sex couple who have been together for many years have the same rights and protections under the law as heterosexal people do? I have known many Gay and Lesbian couples who have been in a loving commited relationship for a lot longer than straight people, Why should they be denied rights of visitation for a partner in a hospital just because the family "hates gays"? and why shouldn't the property rights be protected? again for the same reason. I myself am not "gay" but I have no problem with their lifestyle. And as for these so-called Religous Leaders, shouldn't they examine thier own selves first before casting stones? And yes, I have a gay daughter and I am very proud of her and her life partner, they have thier issues, but then again who doesn't these days.?

Imagine that, someone else decided who could get married and who could not, but let it be repeated IT WAS NOT ME. As I have said, I am torn between voting for a law that MIGHT give some requality and a law crafted by alegislature that no longer listens to the people and decides it has a majority and can cram down our throats anything it wants. There are many in this state who feel the same way as I do, th backlash may be against the legislature and not the average gay Mainers who just wants to live a peaceful life. Joseph, I'll make this real easy for you to win if you want - provie to me that being gay is something other than a lifestyle choice....and I'm talking established proof that its genetic in humans. To date I have not seen one example that being gay is anything other than a lifestyle choice and as such with any lifestyle comes certain consequences and benefits.
If once and for all people could prove it was genetic I suspect the entire argument would be come moot.

As I have explained to my gay friends, my opinion is that a marriage is between a man and a woman, and contrary to what you may beleive I have a rogh to state my opinion, even when it does not agree with yours. See thats the difference between us - you've already decided how I will vote on the issue (and wrongly by the way). My gay friends and I agree to disagree on the issue but for the most part would be satisfied with the state allowing a civil union as it would give them more access to health insurance and rights of immediate family such as in times of illness and death. Actually I do have clients who are gay, but in knowing the tax laws there is what is commonly known as the marriage penalty where two people filing jointly lose some of the exemption compared to if they filed separately, thus they prefer to file separately and enjoy the benefits of minimizing taxes owed to the state and fed. Unlike traditional married couples they can choose either way to file if they were married or united in a civil union.

These calls are standard practice for most campaigns that have national implications including national political campaigns. Democrats announce who they are and where they are calling from. Republicans and especially their front groups are not very consistent.
Civil unions do not provide the same rights and benefits as marriage. They are not equal to marriage. Therefore, they should be opposed.
The good Rev. wants people to be forewarned. Why? Might it be that he thinks that if the callers announce that they are from a "homosexual organization" (whatever that is) they will be frightened. If this were true do you think supporters would be that stupid. The callers' sexual orientation has nothing to do with the questions being asked. This just exposes the Reverend's bias and fear.

I agree with Tron, Rev Henry, were you cruising the pedephile web pages and you came accross the homosexual web sites? Shouldn't you be out saving the souls of your flock? Why are you worried about the telephone calls from California to Mainers? The voters will decide what they want if they haven't already. As for me, I would be more concerned about a so-called Christian molesting my children on an overnight church camping trip than a same sex marriage. My marriage is as solid as anyone's and I do not feel threatened by a same sex union. With all the garbage going on in the world today, crime, violence in the streets, etc, who cares what the folks in California think or do? They can call me and not identify themselves or where they're from. I could care less what their questions are, I won't answer them. My answers will be in the voting booth. I will vote against "same sex marriage". If a ballot is put forth that asks for me to vote for or against a civil union between same sex couples that grants them the same protections under the law that heterosexual couples enjoy, I'll vote for that. If it needs to be spelled out, I believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. I also believe that same sex couples deserve rights and legal protection. I've heard it said that a civil union is not equal because it won't be a "marriage". Look at it this way, it can never be 100% equal, two women in a relationship or two men in a relationship do not equal a man and a woman in a relationship. Fight for equality where it counts, in legal protection not in a word that has meant one thing for so many years. Make up a word if you need something better to call it than "civil union", but fight for something tangible for a change.

I agree with you Reverend Henry. Let's begin by asking why a man of the cloth is cruising homosexual web sites? Or did someone else cruise them and told you about them? If the latter did you check to find out whether the other one was telling the truth? Why haven't you complained about the entities who have come into this state and PAID people to gather signatures for this referendum? Is that OK with you? Perhaps your desire for the truth is strictly one sided.
