Time to elect a woman

It's about time that we elect a woman governor. Maine is fortunate to have a qualified candidate (a woman) for governor.

Libby Mitchell is the only woman in the country who has served as the state Senate president and the Speaker of the House. This clearly tells me that she does not need on-the-job training. Considering the current economic situation, she is ready to lead on day one.

It is time to elect Libby Mitchell and give women their respected place in government. She has paid her dues in public service.

Think about your mother, daughters, sisters and wife. Don't they deserve to be represented by a woman in today's world?

I hope others join me in voting for Libby Mitchell for governor.

Phillip Nelsen, Lewiston

Awful

That is such a condescending letter!!! Electing somone BECAUSE they are a woman is the SAME as electing someone because they are NOT a woman. It's all the same thing. Don't elect someone because of their sex or race, and don't NOT elect someone because of their sex or race. It's the same!!! Sheesh! If I were Mitchell, this letter would offend me greatly. (she is a dem, however, and I'm sure she'd be happy to get even the pity vote)

Didn't we learn

from the debacle of two years ago when the messiah was chosen by the mindless myrmidons who fell for a race, an empty slogan, and rhetoric? Now this idiot thinks we should elect someone just because of their sex? The only upside is that if we hired a woman, we could pay her less. Ba dum dum

you probably do!

Pirate, if a simple typo of

Pirate, if a simple typo of 2010 instead of 2012 makes you incapable of understanding my comment, then you have a serious problem with comprehension of anything but the most basic rudimentary tasks. This certainly explains your lack of debate skill and inability to grasp how economics works.

Its no wonder you think this race is between Mitchell and LePage. You probably disregarded Cutler because his first name has 3 syllables and that's beyond your capacity.

tron, you again make no sense. Not every white person who voted for McCain voted for him because he was white. and since he won the hispanic vote and the Asian vote not all 60 million of his votes came from white people. Its only race baiters like you who are obsessed with color, the rest of the people likely voted to keep the CIA backed Obushma out of the White House.

Pirate..

To state that someone should be elected solely on the basis that the candidate is female clearly shows that theres a crack in that party's philosophy.

A woman maybe, but not THIS woman

Someday the right woman will come along to take the Blaine House. Picking a governor based on gender is not a good idea. We need to pick a governor based on what they can do for Maine. Mitchell is exactly the opposite of what Maine needs.

My mother, sisters, daughter and wife don't need someone that will tax and spend money to be repaid by any granddaughter I may have in the future.

I'm still waiting Voisine

for you to tell me why I should vote for Libby Mitchell.......................... Once again all I hear is crickets

Mr.Nelson, are you actually

Mr.Nelson, are you actually voting for Libby Mitchell because she's a female? Does her record of introducing anti-business, job killing regulations, that even Democrats have shunned away from have any bearing on your vote? Does the fact that Libby Mitchell has voted for every increased tax bill proposed, and will push to expand government programs have any weight on your decision. I am thinking of my mom, my sisters, and my daughter when I will cast a vote to improve Maine's future, offering more employment opportunities for our chidren, reducing the hardships on our seniors, by placing Paul LePage in that office.

I wonder if you hypocrites

I wonder if you hypocrites will be saying the same thing when Sarah Palin is running for president in 2010.

Be honest and say, elect a far left liberal who happens to be a woman.

My mother, sister and daughter are already elected by Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and Deb Simpson. I feel bad for my poor son who has no one to represent him.

Pirate I am waiting for the libs in here to call you the R word or to say it's GWB fault. It seems to be their only defense as to why the country's economy is in the toilet. As for Maine what's their excuse as the state has been run by democratic hacks for years.

Get real, there are

more white people who voted for McCain because he's white, than there are black people, in this country.

Old Bill's picture

Outlandish, as usual

CVan you prove this outlandish statement, tron? If so, please post your sources. If not, fess up!

tron's picture

Just look at the figures,

McCain received almost 60 million votes, and there are only approximately 37 million black people in this country. So see, the statement is FAR from outlandish.

Old Bill's picture

As always, you try to evade

As always, you try to evade the issue. YOU claimed that more white people voted for McCain because he was white. Okay, prove it! Just posting numbers of votes cast for McCain isn't proof of your earlier assertion. Exactly how many of those white people who voted for McCain, voted for him because he is white? Huh? How many? You cannot answer that at all, which makes you post about it in the first place just so much manure.

AARRGHH!

Mr. Nelsen appears to suggest that Libby Mitchell should be elected governor (governess?) on the basis that she is a woman and offers very little else to support his premise. Many Americans thought that electing a black man as our president would be a prudent thing to do since we'd never had a black president before. Well, we have one now, and look at where that's got us.
Libby Mitchell may possess certain qualifications, but she's also been in Maine politics for over 30 years. That in and of itself should DISQUALIFY her. She'd be nothing but same old same old.

Old Bill's picture

Although I agree that

Although I agree that electing Obama as President was a mistake, I base that NOT on the fact he is black, but rather on the fact that he is a socialist, and he had absolutely NO OTHER QUALIFICATIONS other than having been a community organizer. Look at his record in the United States Senate; no accomplishments whatsoever. Wow, that's a great resume for someone who wants to be Leader of the Free World, huh?

RedWhiteBlue's picture

Once again the liberal

Once again the liberal philosophy shows it's stupidity. Elect someone just because she is a woman, or black, or gay etc. etc. How about electing someone that can actually do the job Maine needs? Elect Paul LePage

mrnpchick's picture

I completely agree, who cares

I completely agree, who cares if the candidate is woman, black, or gay?! Let's elect someone who can do the job. And for that matter, why can't the Democratic or Republican parties on the state or National level give us candidates who might be enticing to the entire populace and not either radical wing?! Not sold on LePage or Mitchell at all. Might have to do some independent thinking...

tron's picture

How can you state that LePage can do the job?

He doesn't even want to campaign. He doesn't even tell the people what he'll do, just extremely vague generalities. I'm waiting to hear from him, but time is growing short.

One could just as easily say

One could just as easily say it's time to elect a little person however if that person's ideas are detrimental to an already beleagured state, it's just not worth the novelty.

most of the problems in this

most of the problems in this state have her fingerprints all over them. she is an incompent partisian hack of the first order and just because she has been hanging around the capitol for years doesn't mean she knows what she is doing. her ideas are proven failures like most of the others up there. but thats ok folks, keep voting democratic because "they care". they don't care about anybody except themselves and their own sorry politicial hack-a-rama cohorts. tron's picture

This state has been very generous to women in the past;

of the top five offices in this state, three are already held by women. So gender should not be your deciding factor, policies should be. Granted she's the only one talking about policies right now, but there's still time left, maybe the gentleman might start campaigning.
