LEWISTON — State Rep. Bruce Bickford was being treated for pneumonia Thursday in Central Maine Medical Center's intensive care unit after being admitted Monday.
Wife Margie Bickford said he was resting Thursday afternoon, but said she expected his hospital stay to be a long one. Bickford, 53, was complaining of flu-like symptoms, but his wife declined to discuss specific illnesses.
"He has a long road ahead," she said.
Bickford, an Auburn Republican, represents Maine's House District 70. That includes parts of Lewiston and Auburn. He was elected to the Legislature in November and serves on the Labor and Government Oversight committees.
Before taking state office, he served as an Auburn city councilor. He was first elected to the City Council in 2006, replacing Donna Lyons Rowell, and was re-elected in 2007.

One thing the legislature did NOT cut this year was their salary and benefit package. Rep. Bickford has excellent coverage and I hope it affords him a speedy recovery.
