CASCO — Authorities in Cumberland County continued their investigation Sunday into an early morning crash that killed a man and boy after the driver of the vehicle they were riding in tried to evade police.
Thomas St. Saviour, 29, of Hiram and a 14-year-old boy from Baldwin were both killed in the 1:14 a.m. accident on Route 11, also known as Poland Spring Road, in Casco. The two were passengers in a 1993 Infinity driven by Nicholas Sparrow, 20, of Casco. The vehicle belongs to Sparrow's girlfriend, who was not in the car at the time of the crash.
According to a statement issued by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted to pull Sparrow over for speeding and driving without headlights on Route 11 just minutes before the crash. Sparrow was traveling from the area of Route 302 and initially pulled over after about a mile, but then took off at a high rate of speed.
The deputy lost sight Sparrow but came upon the car about two miles down Route 11, where it had crashed into a stand of trees just off the roadway in an area known as Rye Field Flats.
St. Saviour and the 14-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene. Sparrow was transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center. No information was available about his condition Sunday night, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
Fire and rescue crews from both Casco and Naples responded to the scene Sunday morning.
The accident remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by authorities. No charges had been filed as of Sunday night.

Maybe they figured evading
Maybe they figured evading the police is a lesser charge than whatever it is they were doing in the car at that moment. Did they get the underage kid drunk? Car full of hard drugs? Dead hooker in the trunk? All could be corrected by the time the police caught up to them on another day.

i believe the boy was 16 not 14, still doesn't matter, this is senseless. someone needs to take responsibility for their actions. doesn't matter if he will have to live with it, the other families will have to live without won't they? God be with you, connot fathom what you'll be going through.

Don't these idiots realize that the cops already know who they are? Running away will only cause more problems ( if they survive). What is going on with people? This year seems to be the year for people attempting to elude and none of them have lived and now they're killing others. Hellooooo.......deal with the cops people, it will save your life! This is so very sad! Some poor Mom has to bury her 14 yr old son. My thoughts and prayers are with the families. People need to smarten up, especially with kids in the car.

I can't tell if you're talking about the police, the driver or both. In this case, it doesn't look like he police man engaged in the high speed pace or he wouldn't have fallen so far behind.

I have to wonder if all these chases in movies give these idiots a false sense of security? The chases almost always end up with everyone all right and running from the police...even my grandson thinks these stupid movies are real and that nobody gets hurt in these crashes...
