Mosque is a travesty

This is in response to the letter by Diana Cundy of Paris and her criticism of Aug. 25 against the Sun Journal and Cal Thomas for writing and printing material that exposes the building of a mosque near ground zero for what it is: a travesty of all that is decent in this country.

Moderate Islam, indeed. Can Cundy find more than a handful? Some moderates have spoken out and have denounced that proposed mosque.

The proposed mosque is opposed by a huge majority of Americans and it should be. It is yet another Muslim symbol of victory planted near the point of their conquest.

Cundy has no clue. Does she know that the name "Cordoba House" comes from the Islamic memorial in Spain from an earlier jihad? Does she know that Imam Rauf is a staunch supporter of Sharia law? Does she know what Sharia law entails? Is she aware they won't divulge where the funding is coming from?

I suspect not.

Can we bury our heads in the sand and whine about religious freedom while the radical Islamists would deny us of all our freedoms, all under the banner of liberal, politically-correct tolerance?

I would never

insult the family. I was just wondering how many kids his mom had.

how come

tron doesn't get in trouble from preaves for swearing? I got scolded once for calling him a douchebag....

Trust me, if ever I start swearing

Pattie will be on my case. Obviously you're too stupid to understand what swearing is.

Dan, no personal attacks ... you know better ...

Also, as much as I do love my job (I really do), I can't be on here all the time and I was off today at a funeral. So momof4, please be patient with me if I don't respond right away -- that's why I say in the "report inappropriate comment" message that it can take up to one business day for a response.

tron's picture

I agree, however i've made NO personal attacks, unlike the

two people who complained. The only difference is they have cover from the SJ, for you allow booby and friends to attack me all day long. I thought it was time to even the score, so I'll make a deal, if they don't attack me, I will refrain. If they continue then no holds barred.

Dan, thats bull and you know it...but in case your memory is slipping let me remind you...you called me an asshole, see above...and this newspaper did nothing...and as to your deal, why bother, you'll be the first one to break the deal, we all know that! Mom of 4, it all depends on if ypou're asking aobut the 4 siblings everyone knows or the other 3 that only Dan seems to know about...there is nothing in the family history records about those....

Only in sun journal land would they allow such a blatant profanity...lets see what happens now....

Okay I guess the liberals

Okay I guess the liberals feel its okay for us to build a US Embassy at ground zero in Hiroshima? maybe white supremacists could build their international headquarters on the grounds of Auschwitz?

tron's picture

Horrible analogy, neither of those countries

would allow it, but our Constitution guarantee's it. THAT's what makes us the best country in the world, stop trying to destroy it.

I find it quite odd that Liberals have spent the last fifty years or so trying to deny Christian churchs their first amendment rights, and now, suddenly they are demanding first amendment rights for Muslims.

Wow, you cannot defend your agruement, so you

turn into an asshole, interesting stragedy. You should also enter the 21st century, SS payments are no longer all made on the third of the month, and very few of them are mailed.

Jared said: "The proposed

Jared said: "The proposed mosque is opposed by a huge majority of Americans and it should be." So Jared, now the court of public opinion is deciding where houses of worship can be built? And all this because of the actions of the 9/11 terrorists? How about we talk about the attrocities committed by the French and the Indians in the New England states, Maine included? Should we now ban the building of Catholic churches? What about the attrocities committed by the English against the French and the Indians? Should we ban the Church of England/Anglican/Episcopalian or the Congreational churches?

You also said: "Is she aware they won't divulge where the funding is coming from?" Maybe not, but I am; a large portion of it is coming from Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who just happens to be the second largest share holder in Rupert Murdock's Newscorp, the parent company of Fox News.

Jared, if we as a country are going to hold ourselves up as the bastion of freedom and what's right in the world, there are going to be some times, like this, that we have to sit on our emotions. If we want to go after terrorists and torturers and hold them accountable, then we cannot practice terror and torture ourselves. If we want to spout off about all of our freedoms and rights, then we cannot deny those freedoms and rights to others simply because a few members of their religion or sect committed an attrocity-and yes, the 9/11 attacks were an attrocity. A lot of the heated rhetoric has stated that the issue is because the Islamic Center is being built at "Ground Zero" (it's not, it's two blocks away). Would it be more acceptable if it were three blocks, or in the Bronx, or in New Jersey? Jared, the fact is, we better start practicing what we preach, otherwise, we're just another bunch of hypocrites.

Travesty?

to call building a mosqe a travesty is to belittle what the word travesty means. 9/11 was a travesty. building a mosqe, not so much.

thinkingman's picture

Veritas, you might want to

Veritas, you might want to read something other than the Huffington Post which seems to be where you get all your intellectual comments...how many posts will include the mention of an off-Broadway play...come on dude, you can do better than that...and it has nothing to do with the mosque being built.

"Off-Broadway play?" - It's a movie, Robbie......

And here's the link I tried to imbed in the earlier post: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/31/its-a-movie-a-rock-musical-...

Of course it has nothing to do with the Mosque being built.

But it has everything to do with measuring the (feigned) over-reaction to the supposed insult to the sacred and holy rememberence of what occured that day.

First Amendment

The first amendment is a "a travesty of all that is decent in this country." Because allowing a religious organization to build a community center on private property is not what America stands for! We should put EVERY construction project in every town in America up for a vote because "The proposed mosque is opposed by a huge majority of Americans and it should be." USA! USA! USA!

What I think is the greater

What I think is the greater travesty is that the moderate muslims and city officials couldn't see this was going to create a huge issue. A fair compromise should have been done long ago before this became an issue.

Perhaps they expected Americans to abide by the Constitution

Rather than react in the spirit of Kristallnacht.

Jared, it must be terrible to be

so insecure. Once again, in this country the political majority does NOT dictate how a religious minority acts.

thinkingman's picture

Turd Alert

tron, one could argue that elections are a perfect case of where one group can have its way. For example, gay marriage and tax restructuring (gouging). While not religious, its the same issue, majority rules on many issues in this country. But lets take it a step further, lets say I belong to a religion that does not beleive in health care or health insurance...will i be able to get out of the new Obummer health plan (NOPE!)...There are no exceptions built in for religious reasons. But then again that was a majority of congress, not a majority of America...as polls continue to show.

It happens all the time.

The liberal political majority (in their own minds) dictate to Christianity whenever they get the opportunity. The most recent example is the Lyndon cross. It must be really terrible to be so insecure that you have to resort to selective dictating.

So Jared - what do you think of the new 9/11 Movie Musical??

Jared - Actually it's the Pinheads over at Faux News that wish to deny all of us 'Religious Freedoms'

- But they haven't mentioned one word about another possible travesty that might be capitalizing on a tragedy....

It’s a Movie. A Rock Musical. And It’s Rooted in 9/11.

So you Right Wingerz don't want anyone of the Muslim Faith to Pray - but Hey, a bit of singing and a nicely choreographed musical about 9/11 is A-OK!!
