WINDHAM — A Windham man is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail after being charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the death of another Windham man last week.
Joseph Green, 44, of 38 Roosevelt Trail, was charged with murder in the death of David Harmon, 40, also of Windham. Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine State Police, said in a statement that Green was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday at his mother's house in Casco.
Harmon's body was found on Green's property Aug. 31 at the base of an 8-foot ledge following a search by the Maine Warden Service, Windham Police Department and volunteers. Harmon was reported missing by his wife earlier that night. McCausland said the woman told authorities she dropped him off nearby earlier in the day to scout out hunting sites.
According to McCausland, authorities learned during their investigation that Harmon allegedly intended to steal marijuana growing on Green's property. An autopsy by the state Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide after showing that Harmon died from a "through-and-through wound consistent with a gunshot."
Detectives said Green and Harmon knew each other. McCausland said detectives interviewed Green several times and that he had been cooperative during the course of the investigation.
Police recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. The gun and other items seized last week during a search of Green's property have been taken to the State Police Crime Laboratory in Augusta for examination.
Green, a former heavy equipment operator, is being held at the Cumberland County Jail and will likely make his first appearance in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland either Wednesday or Thursday.

Did she really believe that?
A man who has to be driven around first of all, then needs to be dropped off so he can scout out hunting spots? I hope she at least knew he was up to something, even if she didn't confront him about it.

I was born in the 50's and have grown up around drugs. I haven't smoked since college, but I have smoked. I have watched the argument over legalization, and have weighed the arguments on both sides. And here is what I think (like it really matters what I think)
The anti-drug side has a vision of legalization as complete chaos. Ramped crack, LSD, mushrooms, etc. I tend to think that this position is greatly exaggerated, and not even close to being realistic.
The pro-drug side says only pot should be legal. But they make a mistake when they try to compare smoking pot to other legal activities, like alcohol and ice skating. Good grief, some idiot went to church in Illinois a couple of years ago. Do you want to ban churches because of what one idiot did until pot is legal?
The pro-pot advocates need to make their case based on the pros and cons of pot alone, and stop using unrealistic comparisons to try to prove their point. You might get more support if your argument was more logical.
Ice skating? Come on? Harding wasn't even pretty, much less smart.

If it happens should be based on the merits of pot, and the benefits that pot would make to the community.
If pot is made legal it should be based on its benifits and it's merits and nothing else.

The only reason pot is illegal to begin with is because the politicians needed a way to get the protesters off the streets in the 60's. Before that it wasnt illegal... It was the only thing the hippies were doing that they could make illegal and then round em up and jail them to get them off the white house lawn..

mainly by those right wing wackos, Hearst and Mellon, who were threatened by hemp since a machine was invented that would produce a product much cheaper than wood pulp, that could be used in papermaking, threatening the value of Hearst and Mellons extensive timber holdings.

If Marijuana was legal there would be no reason to steal it from someone would there.... Perfect example of the illegalization of pot making it more dangerous than the drug itself is..
