Longtime road commissioner retires

MEXICO — Longtime road commissioner David Errington submitted his resignation Tuesday night. It was effective Thursday.

Town Manager John Madigan said the town has no plans to hire a road commissioner. Instead, he will assume the administrative duties, and it is likely that lead foreman John Blais will assume additional tasks.

“This gives the town a chance to save money,” Madigan said Thursday afternoon.

The town manager said Errington, of Peru, will continue as town code enforcement officer three days a week.  An agreement is being written with Rangeley to share a code enforcement officer, with Errington serving there two days a week, he said.

In other matters Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen set a meeting for Wednesday with Mexico Water Trustees, sewer trustees and town engineer, A.E. Hodsdon, to discus a plan for reconstructing portions of Osgood Avenue, Alder Street and South Main Street.

Madigan said some community development, water or sewer grant money may be available to help with the projects, which would also help save some money from the town's road bond.

The town is having several roads reconstructed or improved with money form a $2.9 million bond.

Also on Tuesday, the board agreed to go get bids for 3,000 cubic yards of winter sand and approved a taxicab license for Ruth White, who is the new owner of Roadhog Express.
