Grounded in common sense

Congressman Michael Michaud has been there for Maine on education, taxes, Social Security, veterans affairs ... you name it. He spends as much time as  possible checking in with his Maine constituents, and takes our voice back to Congress.

As the co-founder and chair of the House Trade Working Group in Congress, Michaud works hard on behalf of American workers, consumers and businesses alike to ensure a more level international playing field for our products and services, and to fight unfair trade policies.

Many politicians become more invested in their own position than in the states they represent; Michaud never forgets the common people who elected him, maintaining the kind of integrity, moderation and persistence that Maine people are known for.

In these challenging times, I can count on Mike Michaud to remain grounded in common sense and good values, and I will be voting for him in November.

Betty Robinson, Auburn

Kind of curious, veritas...If you are such guardian of truth, why don't you refute some of the drivel that comes forth from people like tron in the name of defending truth? You're supposed to be neutral "truth-teller," right? Then you should be the classic independent. How about tron's racist accusations? I get sick and tired of seeing people accused or blamed for something they did not even say because someone like tron "perceives" a "nuance?" In other words, he thinks something is true because he thinks that is what someone meant, even if they didn't say it. How about it? Do you agree with him? Are those who reject Democratic policies racists? Do you really defend "truth" or only those "truths" that agree with your worldview? Let's see some consistency here...

RONALD RIML's picture

Never claimed to be neutral; Prove me wrong if you can.....

I try to deal much more with facts than with opinions. Facts can be referenced - which I'm certainly not afraid to have reseached and often link to. Opinions are like anal orifices - everyone's got one.

It's certainly no 'Biggie' when one disagrees with an opinion. If they disagree with a 'fact' they should at least have the common decency of refuting it and posting their own link and reference. Very few - if any - ever do.

Hey, T...ever check your profile chart? Your "Disagrees" outnumber your "Agrees" 2218 to 1247. That ought to tell you something about the popularity of you and your posts. A two to one margin in the negative column. Not very good, T... A Dale Carnegie course might be in order.

Well, I' ve learned that the agree-disagree button

is useless, more of an indication on the individual than on what is written. It is an indication of nothing, sort of like you.

RONALD RIML's picture

Popularity Is Very Important!! (In High School)

My 'Disagrees' outnumber my 'Agrees' by 1357 to 1147.

I take that as an indication that I'm doing my job - for 'Truth' is not a matter of popularity.
Quite often when I post a matter of irrefutable fact rather than opinion, some still respond with 'Disagrees.' I wear those as a 'badge of Honor.'

I just had some tool disagree

I just had some tool disagree that I had received a response from Senator Collins. Really? I still have the letter somewhere along with the documents she sent with it to show the progress of my query. I guess it's just someone who thinks that they'll ruin my day instead of scratch my head at their lack of intelligence.

Do some research

Voisine,
"Their claims that their supply side tax cuts boosted revenues is a bold faced lie!" itself is a bold faced lie. Please go look at the Federal revenue and 1980 and then please look at the revenue and 1988. Report those numbers back here. I will gladly apologize to you if the number in 1988 is less than the number in 1980. While you're at it what was unemployment in 1980 and what was it in 1988. Without looking, I'm pretty sure they were lower in 1988. What was inflation in 1980 and what was it in 1988. Probably lower.

Mr. Michaud is a busy man?

Mr. Michaud is a busy man? To busy to respond to constituents, which is his JOB!!?? So it's your contention that Michaud should only take the time to listen to people who agree with him when he is supposed to represent all of us? According to you, the only legitimate need for his representation is to tell him how wonderful he is and how much I agree with him? Anything less is "crackpot?" I can see that you may not be busy, tron, since you have time to blog all day long but I work 60 hours a week and would like the congressman to be a little bit more responsible with how Washington decides to dispose of the fruits of my labor. That may not be a legitimate concern for people like you but I think that's a legitimate concern for people who work. Michaud shouldn't be worried about helping us working people? Just brilliant, tron...

I have addresses a few issues with Senator Collins and not only did I receive a personal response but in one case, she launched a full blown investigation into the dealings of a certain British defense contractor and US bids.

 's picture

from your posting I would hazard that you're

an activist in the republican party, so snowe and collins represent you in congress. they agree with your rants and bigotry, so they feel a kinship with you. they do not represent my views. so if I need representation in Washington, I seek out Congressman Michaud, because I know he'll work for me, whereas snowe and collins just work for reelection, they don't represent the common man. But you have your representation and I have mind. I don't bitch about snowe and collins voting against the people, but you are constantly carping about Congressman Michaud. What's the matter, you don't have enough of the pie yet?

What we don't like

Dan, here is what we don't like. We don't like seeing people being called racist, bigot, wacko. Then when asked to explain, you either ignore or say that we are stupid. Just look at what happened this week with the letter from Mr. Shields.

Here is something else we don't like. We don't like you little innuendos, like implying someone is on medication, been to a mental asylum, and other comments similar to that.

It is that behavior that we are sick and tired of. Anyone who disagrees with your "opinion" is a crackpot, racist, bigot or wacko. End that kind of BS and then we won't have anything to report.

 's picture

if you don't like it, then I suggest

you stop being bigotted, racist or wacko. As far as 'innuendos' go, I don't go for that, I go by what was previously stated in the history of the blogger. I don't mind opposing opinions, however I resent those people suggesting that I am 'on welfare', 'sit on my ass', 'sucking off the system' and the myriad other put downs you, and your kindred spirits, keep employing. You want a civil discourse, fine. But as in the case of Dr. Shields, I remember all of his letters, and there is definitely a racist streak in them. He's great at using the nuance of language to avoid outright exposure, but it's there, I know it, YOU know it, yet you try and defend him. My question to you, is why do you defend racist letters?

Ray St. Onge's picture

Just prove it

Dan, I'm not trying to defend him. I just want you to prove what you say. Again, what did he say that was so racist. If is so evident, it should be easy for you to give EXAMPLES.

Show me where I was bigoted or racist. I WANT SPECIFICS. ANOTHER WORD LINKS TO MY COMMENTS.

Dan that is all you do to avoid outright exposure is use the nuance of language.

No, he could take a page from the Lepage playbook and lie about where he owns property - then pay no property taxes in Maine.

 's picture

Well...I don't know, tron.

Well...I don't know, tron. Is this a reprentative republic or an oligarchy? Crackpot? That's your well-thought out "A" game response to someone you disagree with? The congressman should give a response to anyone who sends a question. I don't have a right to know why he votes on a certain issue? Maybe you want to march in lock-step behind someone's decisions because you are too lazy to think for yourself or work to support yourself but that doesn't mean everyone else does. I can tell you this, tron, I have 8 years of college education...I am a big boy and I prefer to make my own decisions and support myself. I don't need Mike Michaud voting to enslave me and my posterity under socialist policies.

 's picture

you just proved my point,

you don't want Mr. Michaud's representation, so you will make 'crackpot' requests for his time. He is an extremely busy man, unlike ourselves, and he doesn't have time to argue with people like you who only want to argue, not discuss. You disagree with him on everything, and he's suppose to waste his time on you, when he can be doing his job helping people who need it? Give it up, if you have some legitimate need for his representation, then I know he'll give it his utmost, but to answer to little piss ants who only want to derail this society, he's polite but not engaging.

 's picture

Listens to Maine people?

Listens to Maine people? Really? I have seen Jason Levesque everywhere speaking to people about how they feel about the issues. I haven't seen hide nor hair of Mike Michaud. I have sent e-mails to his office that were not answered, not even with a form letter. I have called his office and asked for answers and got nothing. Right, he listens to Mainers. No town halls to take questions, no e-mail responses, and no answers from his staff. I get periodic e-mail updates from Collins and Snowe but I have NEVER received an update from Michaud's office. No thanks...I'm voting for Jason Levesque. If Michaud is the standard of measurement for responsible representation, we're all in trouble.

I have also gotten email response, but they didn't say anything. The were canned responses that did not address my issues.

again

Dan, again with the name calling. How mature.

And yes, I do deserve a response to my questions, he is in Washington to represent me and my question is just as important as anyone else.

An inquiry to Mike Michaud,

An inquiry to Mike Michaud, unless you are with a paper company, gets about the same response we all get when we file a complaint with SJ peeves on Tron and his name calling. If your lucky with Michaud you get an unrelated canned response or request for financial support with peeves you get a copy of your complaint emailed to you with a link to the original blah, blah, blah. but no response to it and no action.

 's picture

he's not there to represent you

he's there to represent the people, and I doubt very much you're one of them. Plus get a clue, I didn't call you a name, so stop accusing me of it.

Ray St. Onge's picture

Wrong as usual

Dan, I am one of he people. I am a tax payer therefore I am one of the people. And as for the name calling, you implied I was a "crackpot messengers" What the heck is that?

 's picture

but did you SUPPORT him?

I think not, and implying you're a crackpot isn't calling you a name, it's the truth.

Ray St. Onge's picture

You have no clue

Dan,
So anyone who disagrees with you is a "crackpot"?

So, Rep. Michaud is only responsible to represent the people that voted for him? Please go back and review your civics lessons from junior high. And yes, I because I could not in good conscience vote for his opponent.
