Courageous and effective

I have been reading statements of support for various candidates, which are based on vague generalities. I would like to share two concrete reasons why I support Deborah Simpson for state Senate.

Years ago, I approached her about testifying in a case in which one of her co-workers was being sexually harassed at work. Co-workers are often reluctant to speak up in such cases because they fear retaliation. She agreed to come forward, even though she was nervous about losing her job. That was an act of courage that I respected.

Willingness to speak up under difficult circumstances is an important quality for a state senator to have.

Her effectiveness as a legislator was recognized in Augusta by her appointment as House chairwoman of two important committees. Residents of state Senate District 15 also benefit from her service in those leadership positions.

vague generalities?

I take some offense to this accusation - "vague generalities".

Courage to speak up and being appointed committee chairperson are both great things that I don't disrespect in any way.

But you began your editorial saying that other letters in support of various candidate are vague generalities and I don't really see much difference from yours and all the rest.

The reason I bring it up is because I wrote one myself and I think the issues I raised (here http://www.sunjournal.com/letters/story/928355) were no more vague than the ones you present here.

Support your candidate but please spare us the attempt at a quick jab - it only takes away from your points and suggests a hint of arrogance.

Oh come on, all it took was

Oh come on, all it took was the "D" next to her name...here's a question we should ask every question....what would you do if not in office....if they have no answer than we don;t need them using this as a job or to create other personal economic opportunities for themselves....
