PORTLAND (AP) — Former Gov. Angus King is urging voters to reject an Election Day referendum calling for a casino in western Maine.
King, who has long advocated against casinos and slot machines, said casinos "sell dreams, and turn lives into nightmares" by leading to addiction, lost jobs, broken families and even suicide. His comments appeared Wednesday on the website of the anti-casino group, CasinosNo!
Black Bear Entertainment LLC is proposing to build a $165 million four-season resort and casino in the town of Oxford. Backers say the project would support thousands of jobs, pump millions of dollars into the economy and generate $60 million a year in tax revenues.
King said a casino won't create the jobs and revenues its promoters are promising, but will harm Maine's image.

The state lottery system doesn't allow people to put their homes up as collateral for a bet, the casinos do. Big difference that apparenly, as a close minded neo-con, you either can't or won't grasp.

Apparently the far right Republicans who post here forget that the last Republican governor of Maine, Jock McKernon, left the state budget in such tatters that it took Angus King, a brilliant governor, his first term just to straighten it out. Electing Republicans is just like Forrest Gump observed: Stupid is as stupid does ... and it is indeed quite stopid to elect the party that destroys everything it touches, like George W. Bush's wonderful economy created by two wars (one based on lies), tax cuts for the super wealthy while everyone else paid a greater percentage of their income, and a complete unwillingness to regulate Wall Street, leading to an near total banking collapse! That's Republican success for you!

Is this the same angus king that has invested or has some part in wind turbines coming to Maine that ships our energy out to canada? Can anyone help me out here with facts???????
