Man charged with threatening dog walker

PHILLIPS — A local man was arrested Friday after he allegedly threatened to kill a man and his dog with a gun when they walked by his residence, Franklin County Sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Cpl. Stephen Charles arrested Archie Searles, 51, of Phillips, on a charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon — a .22-caliber rifle, he said.

Searles was set to be released from Franklin County jail just after 7 p.m. on $200 cash bail, a corrections officer said.

The victim reported he was walking on Miles Square Road when the incident occurred, Yeaton said.

Five deputies responded to the scene after Searles went back into his residence, he said.

Searles was arrested without incident, Yeaton said.

He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Dec. 17.

threatening dog walker

Give me a break!! This is the owners problem, not the poor dog. Everyone arguing over leash law, no leash law. Owners take care of your dog and all that entails. But bringing GUNS into this situation:( Yikes! Is this part of the 2nd amendments solutions being talked about all the time?? Cops, ticket the dog owner. Neighbor, chill out. I hope the poor dog doesn't end up the victim in this. He just has to poop. People grow up. Put guns down!!!!!!

leash law

The dog must be on a leash or under verbal control, since most dogs are like kids and tend not to listen sometimes I would say it's a safer bet to keep your dog on a leash. Why risk the liability and your dogs life if something goes wrong and they end up biting someone. I love and trust my dog, but she is an animal with animal instincts.

Maine has no leash law

but owners are expected to pick up after thier dogs. owners should be required to show proof they have means to pick up poop when dogs are off thier property. ie an plastic bag in thier pocket.

Time to say your wrong. Dont you think a leash law would specificaly mention having a leash? Why bother talking about command and controll when you could just say dogs need to be on a leash? Again Maine state law does not require dogs be on a leash.

6. At large. "At large"

6. At large. "At large" means off the premises of the owner and not under the control of any person whose personal presence and attention would reasonably control the conduct of the animal.
