Paul LePage is against a minimum wage and employer-provided health care. Fewer Marden's employees have health insurance today compared to when LePage began running the business.
Without a minimum wage and without employer-funded health care, how are Mainers supposed to afford health care for their families? If LePage becomes governor, there will be no state health insurance program to turn to.
If LePage cuts education statewide, as he has made cuts at the local level, all Maine children will suffer.
If people don't want to be forced to choose between education for their children or caring about parents, they shouldn't vote for LePage.
He wasn't good for education in Waterville, and he wouldn't be good for education in Maine.
Has LePage thought out those issues completely, or at all?
Does he seriously think Maine families can survive without making a living wage? Or does he simply not care?

Here are some facts about theMac antSaior at 3:40 pm on Oct 31, 2010 Here are some facts about the Donkey Show:
They see the paycheck of the working class as a source of revenue for their wet dreams.
They hate the rich because they run businesses that put people to work; keeping them off the welfare roles negating any need for them.
They hold firm to the belief that if you tax businesses enough, more will flock to your state.
They see "bipartisan" as everyone else letting them do what they want.
They see the First Amendment as a great freedom...as long as you aren't speaking ill about them.
They prefer name calling to intellectual discourse.
They reserve the right to call the president an idiot for eight years, and then claiming that such actions are reprehensible when their candidate is in office.

Get real. Democrats controlled both the house and the senate when the economy went bad.
I would say Greenspan had more control over the economy than Bush had, and certainly not a Democratically con tolled congress.
And in Obama's defense, the president has very little to do with the economy anyway. It is free enterprise. Bush didn't make it bad, and Obama can't make it better.
Now, passing NAFTA like Clinton did will drive company's out of the country, and mandating that businesses must provide health insurance or pay a fine are both stifling businesses, and their ability to operate. But, overall, the president have much influence or control over the economy.

Clinton merely signed the Treaty that the Senate finally ratified after Reagan and Bush I did their thing.
The other real cause for our economic demise was the "Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act (GLB), also known as the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999" - which was which was the brain-child of it's three Republican sponsorsd, and passed through a Republican House and Senate. Unfortunately, Clinton signed rather than veto it. I think I'll blame the 'R's rather than the 'D's on this one. It allowed the banks to go into the 'Wild-West' deregulation which caused the last Cluster-Phuc resulting in the Global Finacial Melt-down of 2008.

that a simple economics course would have prevented. People like Laura, who suffer from a certain type of stupidity known as liberalism, have no clue as to how the economy works. She thinks that employers were born with their business, for the sole purpose of providing her with a job she deserves and is entitled to. She doesn't understand that an employer pays not only her salary, but also their (the employers) share of SS taxes, health insurance, etc. So her $10 an hour job is actually costing the employer upwards of $20 an hour and more. The employer doesn't "owe" her a job, they are not her jobs, they are the employers. As such, the employer has to decide what Laura's talents are worth, and if the are in return worth that much to him. I don't know if you have ever been to a Marden's Laura, but there are hardly any rocket scientists working there, and rarely is there a need for someone who knows Theoretical Quantum Physics in the shoe department. As such, you are probably not going to get hired for much more than minimum wage at Marden's. As the reason for not having a minimum wage have already been spelled out in length in these posts, I won't do it again. A simple bit of common sense and a minor understanding of economics and business management would go along way before you show your ignorance again in public Laura

It's simple economics. Minimum wage does two things to the economy that offset any gain the worker initially receives.
1. When McDonalds has to meet a minimum wage raise of say $1/hour, they then in turn raise their prices to offset it.
2. When there is more spendable income per capita, inflation increases.
What if the minimum wage was $100/hour? Would we all be rich? No. Because the increase in the cost of everything we buy would offset the wage, and our standard of living would not change one bit.
If we made $15/hour minimum wage in Maine, everything would double in price and we would be living the same way we are now.
Minimum wage is an artificial concept that Democrats use to fool uneducated voters into thinking that their standard of living is going to increase. It's a lie, and it is not possible.
If a minimum wage worker wants to improve his standard of living, there is only one way to do it.....improve yourself......learn a trade, go to school and get a degree, start your own business.

Besides, if I agree to work for $2/hour then it is between me and my employer. It's nobody else's business, not even the government.
Let me add here that if my employer wants to keep me then he better pay more before the business across starts paying more than $2. This is called free enterprise and its how competitive business works.
Let demand dictate wages, not Democrats. When Democrats dictate wages they stifle businesses with having to pay high school kids more than they are worth.
As far as families that make minimum wage? If a 40 year old man with 4 kids is still making $7.50/hr then something is wrong with him. He needs to go to school and learn a good paying trade. And yes, the government will pay for an education for a man with 4 kids making $7.50/hour, so there is no excuse.

The system is set up to allow and encourage cheating; that is, using the easy rules to get on and stay on welfare. I know several 20-somethings who have moved to the Farmington area, not because of the wonderful job prospects; because it's easy to get state assistance, a minimum-wage part-time job, and share an apartment with 4 or 5 others doing the same thing - all the while whining that someone should "give" them a better job.
I run a small business and have several employees. Those who are conscientious I pay up to $10 and hour - because that is the upper limit of what the job is worth to me. The rest get $7.50 and most of them deserve only $4. Too bad I can't pay them that.
And not one of them, from best to worst, has any business trying to support a family on this level of income. And they certainly shouldn't be starting one. But, hey, the system encourages producing more rug-rats to get more welfare and keep it longer - under the theory that they will grow up to be good little Democrats.

You ask "Does he not care?"
No, he has said a number of times, publicly in debates and forums, that he has worked to keep Marden's employees on welfare. I can't believe that the media, and DHS has let this slide. When he said that an employee had refused pay hikes for 3 years, and Marden's agreed, to allow that employee to stay on welfare, that says to me he doesn't mind cheating the system. I believe that's fraud and theft from taxpayers to help line the Marden's pocket with even more cash.

I'd say take the raise, scrimp a little, cut out the high speed internet, pare cable down to basic, let's try to find a car pool for you to save gas and I'll work to adjust your schedule to help. When your employer provides a benefit to you, the cost of that benefit is a cost of employment. If he pays it all, or you pay it, or you share, the cost remains the same. The average cost for family health insurance is around $14,000 a year. It might be higher. After some quick arithmetic, that amount translates to $6.73 per hour for a full-time worker.
The current minimum wage is $7.50. For someone making that wage, his employer would have to raise it to over $14 per hour to provide health insurance. I don't know any employers who could afford to do that, even Marden's.
If the government put its gun to that employer's head and forces him, the employer will have to lay off enough employees that the combined savings will cover the new insurance requirements for the remaining employees - or go out of business.
Working families do not benefit from hikes in the minimum wage. The real beneficiaries are the unions whose contract amounts are tied to minimum wage.

This is exactly why most employers will gladly pay the fine and let their employees do the same under Obamacare. The fine is a whole lot less. Obamacare does not work. To make matters worse, Obamacare taxes the employer contribution as if it were income (previously not taxed), so hold on when you file your income tax because now you will be adding what your employer is paying for your insurance which is closer to $24,000 a year in Maine to your income. If you are earning $10 an hour and working 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year your $20,800 a year income just shot up to $44,800 on which you will be paying income tax. Expect a bill at the end of the year and you may find your self in a whole new tax bracket to boot depending on your income.
