Maine teenager gets help with hospital bills

KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) — A Maine community is coming together to help an 18-year-old high school student injured in a car crash pay her medical expenses.

A Sunday fundraising walk in Kennebunk raised $17,000 to help the family of Ashley Dubois pay the medical bills due after her family's insurance policy paid its maximum benefit for rehabilitation.

The Portland Press Herald says her mother, Charlene Dubois, has been denied coverage under MaineCare.

About 350 people took part in the walk organized by Kennebunk High School senior Teddy Nichols.

Ashley Dubois was injured in September when the car she was driving was hit by another vehicle.

She now walks with help from a walker and needs additional rehabilitation before she makes a full recovery.

Power in No Access and Skyrocking Insurance Rates?

All those underemployed "country folk" who voted for LePage and rely on a variety of programs including Dirago are going to enjoy the next four years so much! It's nice to have "freedom" as espoused by LePage and his gaggle of far right Republicans. Next up after Dirago, slash the minimum wage! No Freeloaders! Isn't "freedom" wonderful you "country folk"? Don't you feel happy to know that Republicans are giving you all this freedom not to have access to health care and living wages?! Welcome to Maine, the Mississippi of the North! Yeeeehaaaa!

uninsured motorist?

What I want to know is why she is being billed at all. If she was hit by another car, it seems to me, the other person's insurance should be paying and if it has payed its max, the other driver should be responsible for the rest of her medical bills.

LePage Will Eliminate Mainecare

LePage and Republicans will eliminate Mainecare, so the fact that anyone was denied coverage is sad but hey, those "country folk" who voted for LePage are going to have to realize that they will get exactly what they voted for.
