GRAY — The search was on Wednesday for a woman who burst her way into a local home the night before, threatened an elderly woman with a club and stole medication.
To protect the victim, Cumberland County Sheriff's investigators would not release her name or address.
At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said, the thief broke into the home while the elderly woman was home alone and in bed. When the woman went to turn on a light, the suspect threatened her with a bat or a stick, police said.
The suspect stole prescription drugs and fled, police said.
By Wednesday night, the thief had not been caught. Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Steven Gorham at 774-1444, ext. 2171.

SJ you can keep taking down
SJ you can keep taking down posts about the attack on CandiceAnne all you want. The people of Rumford are extremely angry about what happened and we will just keep posting.

It is happening all over the state. It happened in Rumford on 11/8 to CandiceAnne who posts here regularly and is a highly respected member of the River Valley Community. The SJ missed covering the story, and no police responded to the 911 call. Luckily her service dog stopped the intruders. We in Rumford area all grateful that Candiceanne is safe dispite Rumford's inept police department.

I did not see the comments that were posted that had to be removed...I can't imagine anyone saying something here about this story that would have to be removed....My concern is for this "elderly woman" who had someone break into her house..all in the name of prescription medications...Do the junkies of today really have to prey on our most vulnerable citizens?....My god...as if robbing pharmacies isn't enough...now this?...I talk to my mom everyday....I guess now I will be calling her every night to make sure she has locked all her doors and all her windows..How sad is that?

Obviously locking your doors isn't enough. This woman locked her doors as did CandiceAnne in Rumford. You need a big dog and a big gun. What SJ keeps taking down is CandiceAnne's story and another one. Neither of which they covered. And in CandiceAnne's case the police didn't respond to her 911 call. Thank God CandiceAnne has a very big service dog.
