AUBURN — A Lewiston man remained in critical condition Friday night after his minivan slammed into the side of a tractor-trailer on Kittyhawk Avenue the night before.
Police said Abdikadir Mohamed, 43, was driving toward Washington Street at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday when his van plowed into the Hartt Transportation rig.
When rescue crews arrived, Mohamed was unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he remained Friday night.
It was unknown what caused Mohamed to crash into the side of the tractor-trailer driven by 32-year-old Brian Blanchard of Sabattus.
Blanchard was not hurt.
Because of the severity of Mohamed's injuries, Auburn police called for assistance from a reconstruction team. The crash remained under investigation.

You bunch of inconsiderate apes. Of course there are many cultural activities we take for granted that are difficult for new immigrants to this country, and driving is one of them. Let me remind you that a man's life hangs in balance and maybe you ought to use a little holiday compassion, (because you don't use it the other 11 months), and for the religious among us...shame on you!

Where was your compassion when 19 US Soldiers died in Somali in '93? You probably didn't even bat an eyelash. those troops were their on a humanitarian mission. They died and their bodies dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, Where was your compassion then? I don't hate the Somalis but ill tell you this as a VET I don't have any respect for a race that has such little respect for human life as they do. so say what you want but until your in that situation you have no say!
They are like Leaches they are here until all the resources are dried up and than they will move to another City. Time to cut them off, Hell better yet time to just close our boarders to all and take care of our own before we try and help others and make ourselves Bankrupt.

Thank you Allarie for saying what I was thinking. May I add, I recognize all the above as Republicans on prior posts. Oh, such religious people they all are while this man's life hangs in balance. His poor family must be heartsick. How heartless of all of you to be so hateful when an accident like this happens to someone.

"Lewiston, the city that has struggled for years ever since federal government contractors, such as Catholic Charities, chose it as a site for refugee resettlement " maybe the blame should be shifted towards the "CATHOLIC CHARITIES"???

If it's a real quote, it's not about Somalis. These folks chose Lewiston on their own because they were sick of the crime in Atlanta.

Cause if you read the crime reports, about 1/6th of the crimes are committed by Somalis and those are almost all cultural: Bullying their wives, and not keeping their license/car registration current. Yes, there are annoying things happening like the screaming into cell phones when they should be paying attention to their driving, parking in handicap zones, the jaywalking, bratty kids playing in the street. Have you ever seen video of the chaos that is daily life in Mogadishu? All of these problems will be solved with assimilation, and I believe they're assimilating a heck of a lot faster than the French did. At least they allow their kids to participate in things. I give them one generation and all those rude uncivilized behaviors will be gone. But your white neighbors will still be robbing you for drug money.

The somalis DID not choose Lewiston on their own, Atlanta was tired of supporting them so they started a television campaign telling them that Lewiston paid more in assistance and to move up north thats why there was such a sharp increase in the population. We have no one to blame for this but ourselves for letting this get out of hand.

I don't even have to go to the library and look at National Geographic magazines anymore, just to name one perk. I think it's all totally awesome! I'm "with" the "program"! :)

Would you like to respond? Login or create a new account. You'll need to verify your account before you can respond.More Trends
It seems that there are several other trends in L/A. A driver's license is optional. Should you have a drivers license and lose it, that's okay too. You can still drive. The thinking of some people! The speed limit is only a suggestion. If the person ahead of you follows that suggestion then you are to ride his bumper. Especially if you have a big truck because in your own mind you are more important. Stop signs should be changed to "Roll Through" signs. And everyone must drive with the most fashionable accessory being a cell phone glued to their ear. It means that you are important. (In your own mind.) Drinking and driving is cool because YOU can hold your liquor and due to all of that liquor you are too damn fat to wear a seat belt. So many accidents could be prevented if people would only stop thinking about themselves.

And not just stop signs, but stop lights. Don't even try to go when your light turns green, because there will be one and sometimes two running the red light. Budget cuts mean no cops to sit at lights to catch these idiots.

Budget cuts my butt. Rumford has more cops with 4000 people population then when there were 13,000 people and the budget including grants has climbed to over $1 million. That's $250 a year per person! For it we get fewer tickets, fewer arrests, much longer response times if they respond at all, less patrol (which is verifiable by greatly reduced cruiser mileage but one hell of a fleet), no shortage of sitting in the office time however. In exchange we have more of the traffic issues afore mentioned by all you fine contributors, higher and higher incidence of crimes of all types including murder, it is a free for all for the criminal element and those who just know they risk nothing by breaking the rules. Not so good for law abiding citizens who have been like ducks in a barrel that have starting to realize they are on their own, taking added precautions and security measures. Will the the Rumford Police Department be able to con the citizens into approving that rediculous budget next June? We can only hope that voters do cut the budget and stop throwing good money after bad. Hey, maybe the selectmen and finance committees will get serious and responsible putting responable budgets on the ballot to begin with. Wouldn't that be refreshing.

Has anyone else noticed a trend with all these accidents? It used to be we had youth or seniors causing the bulk of the accidents now we have a new group and the accidents are of a whole new caliber. Terrifying! They are slamming into the sides of semi's and driving off the interstate in the middle of the night with way more people in the car then the vehicle was designed to hold, and the common denominator other than group is "for no apparent reason"

You could do a little research of your own right here in the pages of SJ which covers all these events. Do a search of accidents the paper has covered and see for yourself. Got a question on crime, SJ covers that to and you can see for your self who is getting arrested and who is getting convicted in the court news. Lots of times they even have pictures.
