Cannot face reality

Within hours of AWOL South Carolina Republican Gov. Mark Sanford's admitting an affair, Republican propagandists on the radio, television and even comments to newspaper Web sites were attacking Democrats.
Avoidance of reality is the platform upon which the Republican Party stands. The reality of public officials such as Sanford selling "family values" as a brand is absurd and empty to the core. Public service of character is what Ted Kennedy has embodied for his entire life, working hard to ensure a government that values all Americans and works for things such as affordable health care, a reasonable foreign policy, equal opportunity, military force as a last resort, and tax cuts for the wealthy only when the budget is balanced.
Republicans have never been consistent with their "values," decrying reproductive rights while praising capital punishment. They are fine with the Bush administration having misled America into a war in Iraq, a charge that was bolstered very recently by new, damning information by the author of the Downing Street memo. They thought it fine that Newt Gingrich cheated on his cancer-stricken wife while trying to impeach Bill Clinton.
No American can overlook the pain that Sanford, Clinton or others who have similarly failed, caused. It stands equally true that no American should overlook the hypocrisy of a Republican Party that wags its finger in moral indignation over a host of narrow cultural issues while claiming indulgences whenever the reality of the human condition rears its ugly head within their own ranks.

Barb Writes: He left her

Barb Writes: He left her there to die while he went back to his hotel to sleep off his drunken stupor. Of course the Kennedy money got him off with just leaving the scene of an accident.

So Kennedy got a ticket for that, Barb.

What about Laura (Welch) Bush?

When she was 17 years old, she blew a stop sign, and broadsided a car at an intersection which just happened to have the right of way. She killed the driver of that car (who happened to be her reported boyfriend).

Laura didn't get any ticket at all....

Whoa!!! How odd, eh??

Read about it here....     Do you think the Kennedy money had anything to do with it... ;)

The difference is that we are not holding up Laura Bush as a role model of our party. Mr Tardif chose to use the drunken murderer as his personal role model, and you asshat lemmings fell over yourselves to defend his choice. What does that tell you?

56 direct deaths - and 4,000 cancer deaths from Chernobyl - What the hell was Teddie behind the wheel of there, Earnest??? It had to be almost as big as the propaganda line you're driving...

Ernest, as a card carrying

Ernest, as a card carrying member of the radical right, I see you've attempted to perfect the deliberate lie. Well, taking just the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant disaster, two workers were killed immediately during the incident, and hundreds, if not thousands, died as a result of the fallout. I understand you guys hate Kennedys, but please keep to facts, not make believe.

Yes Gil and the sad part is

Yes Gil and the sad part is that drunken Kennedy left the scene walked back past a fire station and did not call for help for Mary Jo. He left her there to die while he went back to his hotel to sleep off his drunken stupor. Of course the Kennedy money got him off with just leaving the scene of an accident. Mark Tardif have you no shame at all?

I just can't let it go. This

I just can't let it go. This asshat Mark Tardif from Waterville writes in to excoriate Republicans and holds up Teddy Kennedy as the embodiment of "Public service of character". Let's review - Sanford, who everyone on the right will agree is a d-bag and needs to resign, had an affair, left for a week to allegedly end the affair. His mistress is still walking around and breathing. Teddy, leaves a party drunk with a "teacher" who is working on his brothers campaign. Instead of getting some, Drunk Teddy drives into Chappaquiddick and leaves Mary Jo to die. "Sen Kennedy was never indicted" states the moron Dan, as he has over and over in defense of his brother fat boy. Neither was OJ, doesn't mean he didn't do it. As a matter of fact, in this case, we know he did it, but Kennedy money took care of that. The same bootlegging crime money that got the dead to vote for his brother in such large numbers in Illinois.
I don't condone Sanford's infidelity, I condemn it. But to try and pretend that tumor boy, the senior murderer from Mass, is the ray of Democratic Party light that all should aspire to is ignorance beyond bounds. No, I take that back. The ignorant can learn, Mr Tardif is simply stupid

One of the better quotes

One of the better quotes from the Swimmers staff was regarding Mary Jo Kopekne.
It went something like this;
If Mary Jo Kopekne were alive today she would be happy to receive all the government social welfare that Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy had helped create! Ya if he hadn't killed her!

I have no problem with Sanford resigning. I think he should. You forgot to mention Edwards with his girlfriend and love child while his wife was fighting for her life with cancer. This Kennedy thing is a joke esp. since dear old Teddy was married, driving drunk and drove his girlfriend Mary Jo Kopeckne into the pond and left her there to die. I guess it takes credentials like Teddy has to become a pilar of the community. Mark are you serious? You just confirmed to me that liberialism is indeed a mental illness.

Just what does "Public

Just what does "Public service of character ..." mean if not virtuous? Ted did not run for president in 1980. He ran in the primaries and got creamed. Jimmah Cahter ran to be reelected and got what he deserved. Revisionism - right. Ted was born into wealth and privilege and, aside from a few bad days in 1969, hasn't had to worry about anything in his entire life until recently, when his doctors diagnosed brain rot - a few decades late. And, tron, you're very wrong about the right, radical or any other kind, hating all things Kennedy. In today's political world, JFK would not be allowed in the Democrat party - you would expel him into the Lieberman limbo, reserved for the rabble rousers who won't goosestep to the party's propaganda line.

tron's picture

The revisionism of the

The revisionism of the radical right is splendidly illustrated in these comments. Mr. Tardif NEVER used the word virtuous to describe Sen Kennedy, yet the radical right mocks him for using the term. Sen Kennedy was never indicted, much less convicted, in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, who was a teacher NOT a prostitute. Sen Kennedy DID run for President in 1980. I fully understand that the radical right absolutely hates anything Kennedy, but could they at the very least attack with truth instead of lies?

The fact that Mr. Tradif

The fact that Mr. Tradif chose Ted Kennedy as an example of a virtuous politician and role model speaks volumes about who is unable to "face reality". And, to call a belief in capital punishment to be in conflict in the Right to Life for the unborn is absurd. In one instance, the person hasn't even had a chance at life, while in the other the person has forfeited it due to his/her inability to allow other people to live at all. Your logic is somehate skewed, sir.

"Public service of character

"Public service of character is what Ted Kennedy has embodied for his entire life..."

There are far better examples you could have chosen to use as a role-model than Ted Kennedy. I worked at a restaurant in Massachusetts and had the dubious privilege of waiting on Sen. Kennedy during two of his many visits to that establishment. Trust me, you could have chosen a far better role-model.

I agree that Sanford is a

I agree that Sanford is a complete let down and failure. I would also go so far as to agree that the Republican party is a complete joke and failure. Thats about the end of our agreements though. I had to read the line "Public service of character is what Ted Kennedy has embodied for his entire life" four times, seriously, to make sure I was reading that correctly. Sandford is a loser for cheating on his wife and leaving public office. Teddy drove off a bridge wasted, with hooker in the car, and then saved himself and let her drown. I'm not entirely positive but I think in the race of "who's going to hell the fastest" Kennedy has a commanding lead. As much as I dislike W, he took the evidence that was presented to him and showed people such as Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and other prominent Democrats and they rang the war bell just as loud as Bush, if not, louder. But that is an interesting way you choose to word that. "Mislead us". Ok. And if you're throwing Newty under the bus, don't forget John Edwards and Mahoney, who also ran on family values, and then had multiple affairs. Try not to be so one sided in your next post. You can't see the whole picture (which is government just screwing everyone) if you just look to the right for problems.

Well Mark, while there may be suspicion that Gingrich cheated on his cancer stricken wife, there is no doubt that John Edwards did. I really wish Waterville would start its own landfill so they would not keep shipping their garbage south.

Mark. If Ted Kennedy is

Mark. If Ted Kennedy is your idea of the pefect politician you are the one who needs a reality update. He is an unconvicted killer of a woman as a result of drunken driving, which is why he never ran for president. I lost tract of how many times he has been married and divorced. The whole Congress has a track record of moral misconduct, not just one party. The "change" people voted for hasn't improved my life and I doubt it will if government continues the present way. If I am having a problem paying my bills, I do not go on a spending spree, and make more bills.
