Obama: Dems, GOP must cooperate in new year

HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama says Democrats and Republicans must work together in the new year and share responsibility for moving the country forward.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said Saturday that lawmakers must return to Washington next week prepared to make serious decisions about how to grow the economy in the short run and stay competitive in the future.

"I'm willing to work with anyone of either party who's got a good idea and the commitment to see it through," Obama said. "And we should all expect you to hold us accountable for our progress or our failure to deliver."

Obama said his New Year's resolution is to do everything he can to grow the economy, create jobs and strengthen the middle class, though he warned that the economic recovery is still fragile as the calendar turns to 2011.

The president taped his weekly address from Hawaii, where he is spending the holidays with his family.

Senator-elect Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire delivered the Republican weekly address, and said the next Congress marks a new chapter for the country and the GOP.

"We're keenly aware that the American people are relying on us to change business-as-usual in Washington, and we're well-positioned to do just that," Ayotte said.

The newly elected senator said Republicans will focus in the new year on reducing the size of government, cutting wasteful spending and creating conditions to allow businesses to grow and hire. Ayotte also said the U.S. must remain vigilant in the face of continuing threats from terrorists.

Now he wants to work together?

This is the same d-bag who refused to hear any Republican ideas on Health Care reform, then pretended none had been offered. Read between the lines. The community organizer is setting the right up for the fall when none of his Socialistic ideas work to help the economy recover. Come 2012 campaign time, when the chosen one's poll numbers are down in the basement, he will blame it on the right for not working with him. They will once again become the party of no, simply because they listened to their constituents who refuse to become a third world country under a failed Keynesian model of economic disaster that this fool of a leader tries to cram down our throat. When his lackeys Harry Reid and Eyebrows Pelosi fail to push through his job killing, vote buying agenda, he will turn his tingly-legged media rump swabs loose to lay the blame on the right side of the aisle in both houses. How stupid does he think we really are? Oh, that's right, he fooled the dumb masses into putting him in the White House with some pretty slogans and a teleprompter. My bad, I forgot.

All true, Gil. What he'll

All true, Gil.
What he'll probably do is ape Clinton in the second half of his term and "triangulate", working his political agenda more towards the center, hoping to solidify his re-election. My worst fear is that the Republicans will nominate Sarah Palin as their presidential candidate. This will all but guarantee the Hoopster a second term. God Help America if that happens.

Cutting spending

Cutting the President's salary would be a great beginning. My family can't have several vacations paid for like his does. Impeachment is the answer.
