Dumas bows out, endorses Paradis for mayor

LEWISTON — Michael Dumas ended his mayoral campaign Tuesday afternoon.

"This city needs a leader," Dumas wrote in an e-mailed news release. "We need a leader who will keep their head down and
their eyes on the prize. This city needs to unite under one person, so to help
achieve this end, and what do is best for the city, I announce that I am ending
my campaign and giving my full support to fellow candidate Mark Paradis."

Dumas launched his campaign in July, the first to throw his hat in the ring. At 25, he would have tied former Mayor Robert L. Couturier as the youngest person to
hold that office. Couturier was mayor in 1965 and 1966.

So far, three other candidates are passing petitions for the mayor's job. They are current Mayor Larry Gilbert, former City Councilor Paradis and Nick Knowlton, a local performer.

In his release, Dumas decryed unprofessional behavior in City Council meetings and said it would take years for Lewiston to recover from the last few years.

"With that being said, with four candidates for mayor, the likelihood increases
dramatically that we will elect someone who is more interested in being a
cheerleader from the sidelines, or worse, continue the totalitarian conduct of
the past three years," he wrote.

Dumas promised to stay involved in council meetings and local government.

Ginger1 if you check the

Ginger1 if you check the records the attorney/councilor is not the one who kept getting the city attorney involved that would King Larry and Mr. Theriault. I agree we do need change here in lewiston and if we get rid of the power hungry King Larry and his court jester Theriault and get some fresh blood as councilors I believe you will see a change. It amazes me that people continue to try to attack the Peters on these blogs but keep in mind people the Peters are stepping down and want the best for the city not trying to stay in to continue us on the path that the current council and King Larry set us on.

sickened, Mr. Peters has

sickened, Mr. Peters has made as many requests to the attorney as the Theriault/Gilbert twosome. And the Peters want us on the best path and can do that by stepping down? That could be interpretted many ways...

these councillors that

these councillors that represent themselves by leaving their constituents unrepresented when they storm out of a meeting when things get tough shouldn't be allowed to run for office again. Sometimes having an attorney/councilor can be good, but when it takes time and taxpayer money because the councilor/attorney wants legal advice on just about every issue that comes down the pike,it makes you wonder how we got along all these years prior without all this litigation, and legal questions about the city charter. we need to put all of these big shots on notice. the focus shouldn't be on you councilors,it should be on your constituents. The word "i" shouldn't even be in your vocabularies at a city council meeting. I HOPE THAT DOESN'T INCONVENIENCE YOU JERKS!!!
