I read with dismay Jan. 11 about the demolition of the United Baptist Church in Lewiston. I guess it's just a sign of the times as we slowly sink deeper into the abyss.
It's a sad state of affairs when we close churches and open casinos.

Sign of the Times.
Al is absolutely right. I saw that story to and found it hard to comprehend why that beautiful Building had to be demolished. It always seems to be the case in America that as a society we cannot resist the temptaion to reduce Fine Buidings and former house's of Worship to Rubble. Now what will replace that structure? Will it be a Sandwich Shop? If Sam Bennett were alive today I bet he would see it differently.
Look around other than the Kora Temple Shrine Building in lewiston and Saint Peters & Saint Pauls Bascillca what is left? There are no Train Stations left . Tear it down all in the name of progress. Take a look at Lincoln Street in Lewiston, where have all the Buildings gone, Oh Yeah they have been replaced by economic opportunities and you can be sure eventually they will be gone.
America has truly Mortgaged it's Soul for the promise of Economic Improvement.
