AUBURN — A local man accidentally shot and injured a friend with a .32 caliber handgun at his home Tuesday night.
Joshua Becvar, 22, was reassembling the firearm after cleaning it at his residence on Pleasant Street when the gun fired, police Lt. Scott Watkins said.
The bullet struck Joshua Bachelder, 22, of Readfield, in his left arm, Watkins said. Bachelder was taken in a private vehicle to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where emergency room personnel removed the bullet, Watkins said. Bachelder was not at the hospital as of 9:30 p.m., a CMMC nursing supervisor said.
Police determined that the incident was an accident after speaking to Becvar at home and to Bachelder in the hospital, Watkins said. The case will be referred to the District Attorney's Office, which will determine whether to file charges related to the incident, he said.
