BRIDGTON – A plan to create a festival based on the work of Stephen King may have hit a snag too fearsome to overcome: The author himself has asked Bridgton town officials to drop the idea, the Bangor Daily News reported Wednesday night.
Alan Manoian, Bridgton's director of economic and community development, had only begun to discuss the plan this week. His idea was to create a 'literary heritage festival' to celebrate King's work. A story about the plan appeared in the Sun Journal on Wednesday.
But according to the Bangor newspaper, King expressed his opposition to the proposal and Bridgton town officials scuttled the idea.
Attempts to reach the bestselling author Wednesday night were not successful.

Who cares? I love King's work
Who cares? I love King's work as much as the next person, but if he doesn't want a festival to honor his work, then oh well. If it is because of LePage, again who cares, King doesn't have any political clout.

King is so embarrassed by his connection with Maine and then current leadership and political climate here that he does not even want to be celebrated for his successes here. King is a great author, an incredible philanthropist, and now using his position to swing a little political clout
