A turn for the better

The Legislature’s Republicans have enacted LD 1333, reforming health insurance by utilizing the best changes in health insurance that have worked in 35 other states.

Many Democrats saw their socialist, single-payer expectations disappear. Their expensive flop, called “Dirigo,” should not be far behind.

The Democrats’ intellectual dishonesty and excessive party loyalty for years has allowed them to ignore reformed states where health insurance costs are lower because there is competition in the market.

Democrats now predict, without foundation, fact or accuracy, all sorts of bad consequences of LD 1333.

A recent Sun Journal article indicated there was significant interest by insurance companies in LD 1333. Most insurers were squeezed out of the market in the early 1990s and would like to return to Maine for competition for business, which will reduce prices.

The Democrat majorities during the past 20 years have had a flawed record. They seem to have had no respect for taxpayers’ burdens. They have clearly ignored state debt. They have created groups that are beholden to government handouts in order to keep those voters in the Democrat column. They have generously conceded points when bargaining with government employee unions (using taxpayer money).

They have done little to make Maine a more business-friendly state, which would improve things for everyone.

Common sense regard for Maine would be welcome. It is refreshing to see the Republicans in charge.

LD1333, blame,???

It will be interesting to see all the insurance companies who rush into rural Maine, with its small populations, low wages and at times high unemployment. Most insurance companies like large groups to help keep the cost down. Time will tell and I hope people do not get hurt.

Almost all the budgets passed in Augusta have been bipartisian budget requiring a 2/3 vote -Republican hands are not shiny clean and they hold some of the "blame".

As for the current situation I believe a republican (Pres. Bush was in office) when the finanacial mess was made and the great crach happened?
Blaming the Democrats for everything is not correct-- the Crash caused a great deal of the current situation.

blame is easy-- results are what counts-- where are the jobs?

Be careful bowing down to the golden idol of business it may only lead to business getting richer .

And yet DOCTOR Shields has

And yet DOCTOR Shields has accomplished more in his life than a certain critic..lets see..he has a Doctorate degree....he had a great practice until retiring...he served in the legislature...and oh yes, he has the intestinal fortitude to send in letters to the editor, something his most vocal critic here would never do for fear of criticism....can't stand the heat....Lets see score is now Shields 4 Critic Zero....hmmmmm I only wish I could sit home all day eating candy and complaining about those who pay the taxes required to support the critics lazy lifestyle. So what will it be now, personal attacks on me or a quick phone call to the sun journal to say I'm making personal attacks....one can only hope the LSJ takes the time to read the entire post and many more to see who the true personal attacker seems to be on a regular basis...

When all else fails...

I pity any person who chooses to personally attack another individual for stating his or her opinion. How small of a mind you must have and how pathetic your little tirades against others have become, Mr. Breton. You continue to prove to the rest of us that when you don't have a sensible reply to another's view, you simply throw rocks.

Thank goodness we won't have

Thank goodness we won't have to hear this tripe from this nut for another month. How did he ever maintain his practice, oh, that's right he no longer has one

regretfully

Instead of refuting what he said, you attack him. Classy!

Dr. Shields is spot on.

Regretfully, we have to read your tripe nearly daily. Oh, well!

I noticed you rarely comment

I noticed you rarely comment on the letter or article, but always make a point to make a personal attack. Is that all you're capable of? Didn't you learn about civil debate, or didn't you make it that far in school?

you usually comment first

Dan, you "comment" before I get the chance. As, I showed you yesterday, last week and may times in the past that I don't make personal attacks, but I am able to show that you are wrong using facts. When you realize that I showed you up yesterday, you left the board for the day.

I leave the personal attacks to the master, you. Your post never address the issue. You rant against the messenger, you never show respect for those whom you disagree with. If you disagree with someone you call them names. Your opening post did not address anything that Dr. Shields said. Yet, I addressed the content of your post.
