JAY — Vice Chairman Warren Bryant resigned from the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, saying there has no special reason for it.
Vice Chairman Warren Bryant of Jay resigned Tuesday from the Jay Board of Selectmen.
“It was time. I just felt like it is the right time to do it,” he said.
Bryant brought his resignation to the town office Tuesday. It was addressed to Chairman Steve McCourt.
“While there is a lull in local government activity and things are reasonably quiet about town, I feel after having served over four years on the select board, serving on the Comprehensive Plan Committee, the Sewer Rate Committee, the Recycling Committee, the board that removed the Environmental Ordinance, the original school consolidation committee and your vice chair, it is the proper time to ‘bow out’ of public service after a little over 20 years with the Jay Police Department, Jay Public Works and as selectman, while still able to bend in the middle,” Bryant wrote.
Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Bryant's thorough commitment to the town has been appreciated and his attention to the details and his time commitment have been outstanding.
"We wish him well,” she said.
Cushman said selectmen have a meeting Monday, Aug. 15, and will discuss holding a special election for the position on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
