Lydia Cook, 53, was charged with assault, reckless conduct and burglary after Farmington Police Detective Marc Bowering was called to the home about 5:15 p.m., he said Monday.

Cook barged in to the home and bit the woman's arm, Bowering said. The husband was able to grab her and push her out of the home. Once outside, Cook picked up a sickle she had left on the ground in the bushes and swung at him. The sickle became embedded in the deck. She grabbed it and left, he said.

Bowering found Cook, recovered the sickle and arrested her.

The attack seemed to be unprovoked, he said. Cook did not appear to be under the influence of anything or to be unstable, he said.

The woman planned to seek treatment after the incident. The husband was not hurt, Bowering said.

After making an initial court appearance Monday afternoon, Cook remains at Franklin County Detention Center on $500 cash bail.
