ALFRED, Maine (AP) — A 65-year-old Maine woman suspected of setting a string of fires in York and Cumberland counties is going to stay in jail unless she posts $100,000 bail.
Carol Field, of Standish, appeared in York County Superior Court in Alfred Tuesday where a judge refused to lower her bail after she was charged with two counts of arson.
One of the fires she's charged with setting did $200,000 damage to the Raymond Hill Baptist Church.
Investigators believe Field is responsible for a total of 15 fires in southern Maine, most in vacant buildings or wooded areas.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/r2kWY7 ) says Field's attorney, J.P. DeGrinney, had asked that she be allowed to post her house as bail.
DeGrinney says Field will plead not guilty to the charges.
