Holly Kangas said her husband, David, put a sign up at the site to keep the public guessing what would occupy the small, two-room building.

What initially started as a hobby has grown into a business. She wanted to move the photo editing from her home and have an office available for some photo shoots, she said.

Holly Kangas said she grew up in New Vineyard where her mother was good at taking family photos and her grandfather was a good painter. Photography is her way of being creative, she said.

Over the past eight years, Kangas has traveled around the state taking photos of people and events, including many weddings on the coast, she said. Her husband, a carpenter, helps with the business side of the work and has renovated the inside of the new studio.

The office will be open Thursday through Saturday, she said. She plans to take newborns, children and some family photos at the new site and set up appointments. A grand opening is set for early November.
