He and I are similar

Sun Journal staff writer Mark LaFlamme and I have similar styles. He is to journalism what I am to Christianity. We are both very unorthodox and can be interpreted as outlandish.

The bottom line is that we get the job done and we always get our point across.

Those who are exposed to us either love us or hate us for our blatant honesty. We find ourselves at odds over many issues, however, our strong characters, weird sense of humor, and our outside-of-the-box approach has made us more friends than foes.

The one thing we have in common is the way we paint the downtown area.

I love Jesus, the Bible and humanity, but I dislike formal religion that tends to be boring, cold and irrelevant to the needs of society.

I have been reading stories for weeks about all of the violence that has been taking place in the Bartlett Street area. The other day, I was traveling through that neighborhood and ran into a crowd led by clergy on the corner of Ash and Bartlett streets. I thought it might be in protest against the violence but, to my disappointment, it was a ceremony to pronounce a blessing upon animals.

I think we need to get our priorities straight. The situation bothered me so much it made me want to take a leak on a fire hydrant.

I told you Mr. LaFlamme and I are similar.

The Rev. Douglas Taylor, Lewiston

Rev. Taylor, this Pirate has

Rev. Taylor, this Pirate has long been a supporter of yours, and some might even call me a fan. However, your belittling and demeaning of what you describe as "it was a ceremony to pronounce a blessing upon animals" was uncharacteristic. If I recall correctly what I read in the Journal, it was a Catholic priest doing the blessing.
They were doing no harm, and being a member of the clergy yourself,I would think a little more tolerance on your part would be in order. Moreover,I'm not sure that proudly proclaiming to be similar to Mr. LaFlamme is exactly a badge of honor, no derogation intended. And, with all due respect to you, sir, you've come mighty close to taking a brief walk on the plank.

People hated Jesus because of the company he kept. I know what you are saying and you speak the truth. The real challenge is to swim with them without being eaten by them. (lol) You should come down and pay me a visit sometime and experience the real deal.

When they say one will be

When they say one will be judged by the company one keeps, they are assuming that the company will mold and influence, negatively or otherwise, the individual. In Jesus' case, he, not so much, was influenced by the company he kept rather than that he influnced and molded the lives of his followers. They did not lessen him; he bettered them.
