Lewiston firefighters attack a porch that was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at 24 Orange St. in Lewiston on Wednesday afternoon.

The State Fire Marshal's Office said Wendy Bryce, 41, of 24 Orange St., set the fire in the area of the porch. No motive was given.

Fire damage was confined to the outside of the duplex, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office. Smoke and water damaged the inside of the building. No one was injured.

On Wednesday, Bryce told a Sun Journal reporter that she was baby-sitting the 3-year-old child of her former boyfriend, Jimmy Nelson, who is the owner of the building. Bryce told the reporter at the scene that she had just put the child to sleep before the fire started.

Bryce was interviewed after the fire and arrested later in the afternoon, according to the release. She was held at Androscoggin County Jail on $20,000 cash bond Thursday night.

Mug Shot

I always surprised when people smile for their mug shot. It should be the most miserable day of their life. I don't see anything funny here.

Ya just gotta be there....

Quite often they smile merely to break the tension.....

Gallows humor.

unreal

This idiot has nothing to smile about, she put a small child at risk and purposely set this fire. I would not have been smiling that is for sure, she should be crying.
