Sad parallels

The syndicated columns for Aug. 23 were a sad parallel with Cal Thomas' usual negativity about anything Barack Obama. Thank God for Leonard Pitts Jr., who offers some insightful information about possible healthy change.

What about a little historical editorial perspective? Shouldn't a so-called professional columnist compare eight years of political lies, misinformation and fabrication about weapons of mass destruction to only eight months of solid efforts to begin to right those horrible wrongs?

Thomas believes that Obama is burning out already. How quickly negative, frustrated, shallow people can criticize and label sincere efforts as economic takeovers.

Conservatives don't want to be accused of playing the race card, but just recall the location of the red states and the current Republican objections to any constructive compromise.

Washington lobbyists know how to politicize a spin on anything. And there are already "death panels." They are called insurance companies.

If, as you claim, we're spending more as we have more sophisticated equipment that cost more, and more life saving drugs - why does the Unites States rank 50th of all countries in life expectancy by our own CIA World Factbook (2009 estimate)

It would appear you're blowing smoke-rings out your anus....

You're fashioning questions

You're fashioning questions based upon your cult of "Slash and Burn" -

Not that this doesn't surprise me in the least.

You're curious as to where the money might come from? How much do you think we already pay on health care in this country? Is it In the top ten countries per person? C'mon - you claim to work in Health Care...

We may already be spending that money.....

What do you think?

Republicans have been giving

Republicans have been giving more than input for eight years - and look where it's got us, Barb.

Keep spattering spittle on your keyboard as you rant and rave. We must be doing something right if you hate us and Obama so greatly.....

Well, the hard-core lurkers

Well, the hard-core lurkers crawled out from under their rocks.

Death panels: The phrase first appeared in early 2005 when GWB suggested making some changes to Social Security. The left went ballistic - but it's hard to tell that from their usual state.

Bush tax cuts: Like the Reagan and JFK tax cuts, they increased the revenue of the federal government. If BHO lets them expire or cancels them, revenues will fall, leading to another round of tax hikes on those evil rich, leading to even less job creation than under all this wasted Bush/Obama stimulus.

Bush spending: Where was I? Right here, saying the same thing. Especially about the Medicare drug nonsense.

National debt: GWB doubled it and BHO is tripling that.

Joe, Walmart is having a special this week on air. Go on down and get your empty spaces filled up.

Mark Wrenn's picture

Can't even keep your own

Can't even keep your own fantasies straight, can you. The Bush tax cuts increased revenues, but he also doubled the national debt? If that's true, never, ever let a conservative near the national budget again. If Joe shows up at Walmart, will you be wearing your vest?

Obama has offered no

Obama has offered no compromises, constructive or any other kind. Republicans, the few who dare to speak up, object to being left completely out of the discussions. Obama says "Jump" and the spineless Democrat-controlled Congress asks only "How high?" Mercifully, there are a few vertebrates in that zoo who are showing a little spunk and complaining about hanging all this debt around the necks of our grandchildren so fools like you can have a free lunch while nattering about historical perspective.

Drane, this administration rode in chanting hope & change and asking us all to look forward with enthusiasm. I guess you didn't get the memo, nor did our new attorney general. You both want to look back and punish everyone you can find who had anything to do with the real center of your hatred.

RONALD RIML's picture

Most Republicans refuse to

Most Republicans refuse to enter the discussions - and when they do speak up - it is to call names and utter lies. "Death Panels?" Didn't exist until the Elephants opened their mouths - yet the legislation to pay for 'End of Life' counseling was written by a Republican congressman - which shows there was discussion.

You need to get a grip with reality, Frostproof. And where was this great concern of yours when Bush II almost doubled the National Debt? My hope for change include Obama's cancelling the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy which helped create this mess.

The few who dared went right

The few who dared went right along with Bush and all of his special tax cuts for the rich and wealthy. Make a note of that and think before you speak the air is to valuable for an air head.

"hanging all this debt

"hanging all this debt around the necks of our grandchildren".... Was the zoo closed when when tax cuts for the rich were passed using reconciliation? Twice? How about the massive giveaway to big pharma for a drug plan written by big pharma, forced through by the zoo with no intention of paying for it? Double the national debt? Start a couple of wars, fail, pass them on to your successor?
