C. Aceto: Face of contradiction

Bob “Mr. Polarization” Macdonald in his press conference on Dec. 15 has anointed himself — “I am the face of Lewiston, now.”

What a face of contradiction.

The bully, claiming to have the bully pulpit, ran a two-platform campaign based on maligning the Somali community. At one debate, he claimed all Somali boys don’t want to learn — all. Then he ran for cover and said of a Somali woman in the audience that she was one of the good ones.

Reminds me of the homophobe who says, “I work with gays.”

He claimed property owners and taxpayers on Lisbon street looked like a “fourth world” country.

Now that he has thrown his rhetoric around, looked like a fool on news stations across the state on election night threatening to “get” someone, he has turned over a new leaf and wants to “work with everyone” and will be “Mr. Happy” from now on?

He is not entirely credible either, or simply invents things.

He invented a story last year that a prominent restaurant owner on Lisbon Street was having all kinds of problems with the immigrant community. “Mr. Happy” made that up and only apologized after being confronted with the truth from the owner he wove into his fabrication.

Macdonald claims people laugh at Lewiston. He is wrong. Lewiston (and Auburn) have worked long and hard to recreate their image and downtowns.

After his election diatribe on the news, though, they have someone to laugh at.

Lisbon Street

Lisbon Street from Cedar St to Main looks to be anything but healthy for the most part. I would say the new mayors observation was very accurate. Before you chastize me as being a supporter of the new mayor I wouldn't know him if I tripped over him. I just remember the Lisbon St of 60 years ago that was chuck full of first line stores.

Yes

And back in those days you had to do your shopping during working hours. Downtown did not want to be open when people were available for shopping (After work). Also half of the street was bars.

How exactly did taxpayers win?

Granted this special election may not have cost more than a few hundred dollars, but I must admit I do not see the logic in your comment. Did "we" win because there wasn't another special runoff? Did we prevail when the "winner" of this election displayed a "YouTube" worthy meltdown in front of a throng of media outlets?

I honestly believed Mr. MacDonald couldn't be worse than self-promoting, factually challenged, current mayor of Lewiston. After seeing him "perform" on TV via the candidate forum, reading his quotes printed in the local newspapers, and watching his meltdown on the 5am news - I'm concerned the incoming mayor is factually challenged and acts as if he has some personal score to settle.

Lewiston does not need another "moonbeam" whose actions and constant sabre rattling required the services of our contracted city attorney to constantly intercede before matters reached critical mass.

I hope I'm wrong. For the sake of my tax bill, I really hope I'm wrong.

How exactly did the taxpayer win? Enlighten me.
