The syndicated columns for Aug. 23 were a sad parallel with Cal Thomas' usual negativity about anything Barack Obama. Thank God for Leonard Pitts Jr., who offers some insightful information about possible healthy change.
What about a little historical editorial perspective? Shouldn't a so-called professional columnist compare eight years of political lies, misinformation and fabrication about weapons of mass destruction to only eight months of solid efforts to begin to right those horrible wrongs?
Thomas believes that Obama is burning out already. How quickly negative, frustrated, shallow people can criticize and label sincere efforts as economic takeovers.
Conservatives don't want to be accused of playing the race card, but just recall the location of the red states and the current Republican objections to any constructive compromise.
Washington lobbyists know how to politicize a spin on anything. And there are already "death panels." They are called insurance companies.

Of course we're spending more money. We have more sophisticated equipment that cost more and more life saving drugs. Why don't you do a little research on Mass. health care. The lowest cost plan cost 9,560 dollars per year out of pocket if the insured suffers a serious illness. The state is going broke and liberals seem to ignore what's in front of their face. What is Obama's rush to push this thing through? I will keep my current health care thank you very much. I don't need Obama and want the government out of my health care decisions. If you want a nanny state just look north.

Death panels: The phrase first appeared in early 2005 when GWB suggested making some changes to Social Security. The left went ballistic - but it's hard to tell that from their usual state.
Bush tax cuts: Like the Reagan and JFK tax cuts, they increased the revenue of the federal government. If BHO lets them expire or cancels them, revenues will fall, leading to another round of tax hikes on those evil rich, leading to even less job creation than under all this wasted Bush/Obama stimulus.
Bush spending: Where was I? Right here, saying the same thing. Especially about the Medicare drug nonsense.
National debt: GWB doubled it and BHO is tripling that.
Joe, Walmart is having a special this week on air. Go on down and get your empty spaces filled up.

Didn't exist until the Elephants opened their mouths - yet the legislation to pay for 'End of Life' counseling was written by a Republican congressman - which shows there was discussion.
