Rumford town offices closed for holidays

RUMFORD — In observance of Christmas, town offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Wednesday.

“In the town policy, they get the day before Christmas and Christmas for a holiday, so then because they both fall on Saturday and Sunday, they take the Friday and the Monday,” he said.

The offices will also be closed Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year's holiday.

Town employees are people, too

They have families and deal with the same issues the rest of us do. Why should they be punished because they're town employees? Most everyone I know have the Monday following Christmas off and many places are shutting down early Friday as well. Sorry for the "rest of those" who don't have that type of deal with your employer, however that doesn't give you an excuse to take it out on those that do.

That makes sense, NOT...

“In the town policy, they get the day before Christmas and Christmas for a holiday,".
Since they have both of those days off already because they fall on a weekend this year, why does that entitle those people to two extra days off as well? The rest of us have to work, some of us even on Saturday and Sunday.
The way I see it, the town lucked out, and shouldn't have to pay for those holidays this year and so what do they do??? Give the employees two OTHER paid holiday instead. The same goes for New Years, the holiday is Sunday, not Monday. Another paid day off for town employees.
