Auburn council plans brief meeting Tuesday

AUBURN — Councilors will hurry their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 3, in hopes of attending the Lewiston's inaugural ceremony for its mayor and councilors.

Because their usual meeting day falls on a holiday, Jan. 2, councilors pushed it back a day.

Mayor Jonathan LaBonte said he'd hoped councilors would meet Monday, Jan. 9, but they decided not to because at least two councilors will be out of town that day.

"So we'll have a regular business meeting beginning at 5 p.m. and if we can get the business handled by 6 p.m., we'll have a short workshop," Labonte said.

Lewiston's new mayor, Robert Macdonald, and the City Council are scheduled to be sworn in at 6:30 p.m. at the Franco-American Heritage Center. LaBonte and several Auburn councilors plan to attend.

LaBonte said the council also scheduled a special workshop Thursday, Jan. 5, to discuss council goals, protocols and processes for the next two years. That meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Auburn Hall.
