Flames shoot from the front of Rex Rolfe's home on Deer Hill Road in Waterford on Friday night. A spokesman for the Waterford Fire Department said no one was at the house when the fire erupted just before 8 p.m.

No one was home at the time and there were no injuries, he said.

Owner Rex Rolfe arrived at the scene after an unidentified person spotted the blaze and notified authorities shortly before 8 p.m.

Murch estimated damage to the 1½-story wood-framed building at about $75,000, including smoke and water damage on the inside. The house is about three years old and insured, he said.

When the first crews arrived they found the building engulfed in flames, Waterford dispatcher Bruce Swett said. Waterford Fire Department was joined by others from Harrison, Bridgton, Naples, Otisfield, Norway and Paris helping at the scene or filling in at nearby stations.

Water was shuttled from Crystal Lake near the intersection of Route 117 and Maple Ridge Road in Harrison. Murch said there were no hindrances to getting the flames knocked down. "Everything went well," he said.

Stoneham Rescue was also at the scene.

Deer Hill Road runs between Mill Hill Road in South Waterford and Route 117 in Harrison.
