A vote is pending before the board of directors of Regional School Unit 73 (Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay) to close the Livermore Falls High School site (south campus) as a teaching and learning facility for students and build a multimillion-dollar addition at the Jay High School complex (north campus).
No one knows how many millions of dollars the addition will cost. A cost of $4.5 million was presented Dec. 12, and then another $750,000 was estimated to be needed on Dec. 19.
Once the board of directors votes to close the school building, the towns of Livermore and Livermore Falls will vote to close or not to close the building. A vote to keep open could cost either town $638,040 above their RSU 73 budget share.
Several people have suggested using the Livermore Falls High School complex as the RSU middle school and using the middle school and high school at Jay for the RSU high school. This option has not been fully explored and presented for consideration.
First, let’s be up-front and find out if the towns in RSU 73 support a multimillion-dollar addition in Jay.
The board meets this Wednesday to take its vote.

My question to you Mr Jones
My question to you Mr Jones is why would the district want to spend much more money than the figures you are quoting for a Jay addition to bring the Livermore Falls High School up to code and to fix all the issues there are with the building??? Many repairs were not done in a timely fashion over the past few years and the building is falling down. Using the middle school in Jay for high school students would be a waste of space as the building is geared to middle school students, not high school. Part of the consolidation was the recommendation that the LF high school would be closed. It still should be done.
