LEWISTON — A local teenager was arrested Friday night, police said, following a skirmish at the end of a high school basketball game.
One witness said the boy punched at least one cop before he was subdued, arrested and taken away in a cruiser.
Another man said it appeared the suspect had been become involved in an altercation with the opposing team as they boarded their bus.
Police intervened, witnesses said, a scrap ensued and the incident didn't come to an end until officers used chemical spray on the suspect.
Several witnesses said the teenager plays for the Lewiston High School basketball team, although police did not immediately verify that.
Later Friday night, the teen was being booked on an assault charge, according to Lewiston police Sgt. Randy St. Laurent. Police did not identify the juvenile. It was unclear how the fight began or how many were involved.
St. Laurent said nobody was seriously hurt in the incident, which remained under investigation.
The fight took place at the end of the game after Lewiston triumphed over Hampden Academy.
