PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Occupy Maine demonstrators who reported all of their signs stolen over the weekend say police officers chuckled and refused to file a police report.
Heather Curtis from Occupy Maine said Tuesday that dozens of signs including some made by a university art professor were removed from Lincoln Park. She said it either happened on the bitter-cold Saturday night while 15 to 20 demonstrators slept or on Sunday afternoon when they left to attend some events.
Jen Rose, one of the demonstrators, said officers told her there was no crime since the signs had no monetary value and since protesters were in the park illegally.
There was no immediate response from the city, which has ordered the demonstrators out. The group that's protesting inequality is suing to remain in the park.
