Marcel Chaloux of Lewiston tours the apartments at Healy Terrace on Ash Street in Lewiston on Friday. City officials cut the ribbon on the complex that consists of 32 apartments geared for senior citizens. Chaloux, 83, lived in the 3½-story brick building for 2½ years when it was operated as an orphanage by the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. Chaloux was 8 years old when he and his two brothers moved in because their mother had tuberculosis and was hospitalized for an extended period. Chaloux's father was a barber and could not afford to care for five children. Chaloux remembers working in the orphanage laundry on Monday mornings. "It wasn't punishment," he said. "It was fun. I got to get out of school." He said it felt good to come back and walk the halls. "It's kind of interesting how life brings you back," he said.
